‘I worked so hard’: WA students share live ATAR reactions on TikTok

Lilah Di Noto stares in shock at her computer screen after discovering she achieved a better ATAR than she was aiming for. And Lilah was aiming high.

“Oh my God, congratulations! That’s amazing! Lilah!” her mum, sitting behind her, says as Lilah covers her face with her hands.

With an ATAR of 92.65, Lilah, a graduate from Penrhos College, now can choose between the courses which most interest her – a Bachelor of Science in chemistry at Curtin University or Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Western Australia.

“I am extremely happy with my result. I’ve wanted to achieve an ATAR above 90 for such a long time, and I’ve worked so hard throughout the year, so I am definitely pleased,” she said.

“I found that year 12 was a rollercoaster of emotions. My school hosts a large variety of events, so I definitely had so much fun throughout the year.

“At most times though I was under a lot of stress and pressure, but my teachers, as well as my friends, offered so much support to help me get through the hardest parts of the school year.”

Lilah said she considered her school as a second home throughout the year, so approaching graduation was very emotional.

Students across WA have posted videos to TikTok, recording live as they looked at their ATAR for the first ime. Some have shared their success, while others posted despite being disappointed with their result.

Past students have also taken to the video sharing app to say how, in the grand scheme of things, their ATAR results have not mattered much.

Many revealed their ATAR was lower than they were aiming for, but that they had since created successful careers despite the number.

“[ATAR] will not define your future. There are many different pathways that will lead to the same career,” she wrote in one.
