Bill-dodgers at an Indian restaurant are being hunted after sneaking away without paying for £63 of food by pretending to go outside for a smoke.

Arvelli restaurant in Darlington has appealed for help to find the two men who dined at the eatery earlier this week.

Footage shared by the restaurant on Facebook shows the men brazenly walking out the door, one with their pint glass still in hand and the other with a cigarette.

The second man to leave seems to tell the barman that the pair are just popping outside for a smoke by putting the cigarette it in his mouth and pointing at their table.

He then goes outside and looks around for the first man, who seems to have already fled the scene.

Staff said the ordeal took place at around 11.10pm on Wednesday evening.

Posting a statement on Facebook, the eatery said: ‘Unfortunately last night, we had two gentlemen walk out without paying their hefty bill of £63 [at] around 11:10pm.

‘Initially one of them left for a ”smoke”, then the other man dressed in a tracksuit followed saying they will be back after speaking to their friend.

‘After a tiring day, it was sad the night was ended on a bad note. Every incident like this affects the business as well as the hard working staff.’
