KING Charles III is getting ready to address the nation in his first speech as reigning monarch.

It follows the sad passing of Britain's beloved Queen Elizabeth II.

What time will King Charles address the nation today?

King Charles’s official spokesman has confirmed that he will make his first speech today (September 9, 2022) following the death of his mother on yesterday (September 8, 2022)

He is due to make his address at about 6pm tonight, in a pre-recorded televised address.

Charles will then be formally proclaimed monarch at a historic Accession Council meeting at St James's Palace on September 10, 2022.

He automatically became King after Her Majesty's passing at Balmoral.

Before Charles' speech, bells are expected to toll at St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and Windsor Castle at noon.

A gun salute will then fire in London's Hyde Park at 1pm – one round for every year of the Queen's life.

What is His Majesty expected to say?

The new King will likely keep the address relatively short as he pays the tribute to his late mother.

Last night (September 8, 2022) Charles, who is now be known as King Charles III, gave a sombre statement as he led the nation in mourning.

The new King said: “The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.
