Last Uvalde school shooting victim, 10, leaves hospital after more than two MONTHS: Mayah Zamora hands out roses to hospital staff as they cheer her miraculous recovery from multiple surgeries to treat critical injuries from gunman

• Mayah Zamora, 10, became the last person wounded in the Uvalde school shooting to leave the hospital after she was discharged on Friday
• Zamora was shot ‘multiple times’ by crazed gunman Salvador Ramos in the shooting a Robb Elementary School on May 24
• Her family says that she has already been through surgeries and is undergoing physical therapy
• At the time of writing, a GoFundMe page to help her family to pay for her medical bills has raised close to $110,000 

A 10-year-old girl who was critically wounded in the Robb Elementary School shooting on May 24 became the final surviving victim to leave a hospital last Friday. 

Mayah Zamora spent 66 days being treated in University Health in San Antonio after being shot by crazed gunman Salvador Ramos in Uvalde, Texas.

A video released by University Health showed Zamora walking out of the hospital handing single stem roses to members of staff while they gathered to applaud her. They also chanted: ‘Mayah! Mayah!’

A tweet from the hospital read: ‘Today was a happy day at University Hospital! Our final patient from the Uvalde shooting, 10-year-old Mayah Zamora, was discharged!’

The post continued: ‘She is our hero and we can’t wait to see all she accomplishes in the future!’

It was accompanied by the hashtag: #MayahStrong.

The school shooting in Uvalde shocked the nation and renewed calls for gun reform laws. In total, 19 children and two teacher were killed. Three others were injured, including Zamora.

On July 29, Zamora, 10, was discharged from the hospital, staff at the hospital shouted: ‘Mayah! Mayah!’ as she finally walk out of her room

Zamora’s family says that during her stay in the hospital she has undergone surgeries and has started physical therapy

The shooting was the second deadliest school shooting in American history, after the Sandy Hook elementary shooting in 2012. 

A GoFundMe page that has been set up to help Zamora’s family to pay for her medical bills said that the fourth grader was forced to undergo multiple surgeries after being wounded by Ramos. 

In addition, the money raised on the crowdfunding page will help to pay for necessary future medical costs. 

At the time of writing, the page has raised nearly $110,000. A family member wrote on the page that Zamora is facing a ‘long road to recovery.’

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District will receive $1.25 million to provide trauma-informed counseling to staff and students. 

Zamora’s teammates on her softball team also raised more than $4,000 for their injured friend by setting up a lemonade stand at a game, reported KSAT. 

A teammate, Victoria, told the station at the time of the fundraiser: ‘She’s gonna get better. I hope that she’s gonna feel better. And I will especially tell them that to pray, that I’m praying, and hopefully, she feels better.’ 

While Zamora’s cousin told Fox San Antonio that it was miracle the 10-year-old was still alive adding: ‘We miss her smile, we miss her being happy and silly around us and always cheering all the other kids.’

The 10-year-old’s brother, Ruben, wrote in a post on Facebook earlier in July that his sister has already begun physical therapy and that he did not know for how long she would remain in the hospital.

Ruben said: ‘It can be as long as another month+ , or as short as 2 weeks. We will just have to see how much my sister can progress.’

He went on: ‘But I’ll tell you what she is strong, she is determined, she is stubborn, she is hard headed- and on top of all that.. she wants to get out of that hospital. She has surprised the doctors so much, and she’s gunning for more.’

In June, staff at University Hospital upgraded her condition from serious to fair.  

During her stay in the hospital, Zamora was visited by country music star Kevin Fowler on July 4

Fowler tweeted about meeting Zamora: ‘What an amazing experience it was meeting this sweet little girl. She’s way braver than I could ever be’

During her stay in the hospital, Zamora was visited by country music star Kevin Fowler on July 4. 

In a series of tweets, Fowler said that Zamora and her family had been planning to attend one of his concerts prior to the shooting. After learning this, hospital staff reached out to Fowler’s representatives. 

Fowler said in those tweets that Zamora was ‘the most amazing little girl.’ In another message, Fowler said that Zamora had suffered ‘multiple’ bullet wounds. 

He also tweeted: ‘What an amazing experience it was meeting this sweet little girl. She’s way braver than I could ever be.’ 

Fowler continued: ‘This whole experience really hit home with me. I have three daughters and I can’t imagine one of my babies going through this.’ 

Speaking about Zamora’s parents, Christina and Ruben, Fowler described them as ‘absolute angels.’
