A WITNESS claims they heard gunshots in Nottingham this morning before three people were found dead amid a horror rampage.

The major police incident was declared in recent hours, with cops racing to close off the city.



Police have now confirmed a man, 31, has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three people were found dead.

Photos of the scene show what appeared to be bullet holes in a van's windscreen, with cops swarming a person nearby.

A witness has now revealed the horror they saw this morning.

They told GB news: "We woke up this morning at about 5:30am to what sounded like gunshots – we ran to the window and there was armed police coming out of an undercover car.

"The suspect was tasered and dragged out by them and then arrested."

Another witness, Lynn Haggitt, claimed she saw the white Vauxhall Vivaro pull up beside her around 5.30am.

Lynn told Channel 4 News: “The man in the driver’s seat looked in his mirror and saw the police car behind him.

“The white van then quickened up to the corner of the street and went into two people. He went straight into them and didn’t even bother to turn.

“A lady ended up on the kerb and then he backed up and sped up Parliament Street with the police cars following him.

“A man was hurt badly. They did get him to his feet with a whopping great head wound but amazingly enough he got up. The woman was sitting up on the kerb. To me she looked okay.”

Police were called to Ilkeston Road in the Nottingham city centre just after 4am where two people were found dead in the street.

Officers were then called to another incident in Milton Street where a van had attempted to run over three people.

They are currently being treated in hospital.

A man has also been found dead in Magdala Road.

Police initially said they were attending a major incident, with specialist officers at the scene and a cordon thrown up in the city centre with the public told to stay away.

Six roads were shut and tram services cancelled as police dealt with the incident.

Chief Constable Kate Meynell said: “This is an horrific and tragic incident which has claimed the lives of three people.

“We believe these three incidents are all linked and we have a man in custody.

“This investigation is at its early stages and a team of detectives is working to establish exactly what has happened.

“We ask the public to be patient while inquiries continue.

"At this time, a number of roads in the city will remain closed as this investigation progresses.”

Nottinghamshire Police said earlier: "Officers are currently at an ongoing serious incident.

"The following roads are closed – Ilkeston Road, Milton Street, Magdala Road, Maples Street, Woodborough Road from junction of Magdala Road into the city.

"Maid Marian Way junction of Parliament Street. Updates to follow."

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue added: "We are currently in attendance at an incident in the city centre assisting @nottspolice
