Gold Coast teens hang from side of moving tram at Surfers Paradise in dangerous stunt

Two ‘out of control’ teenagers have been caught on video dangerously hanging off the side of moving tram. 

The potentially deadly stunt took place on the Gold Coast’s G:link tram as it was passing through the Surfers Paradise light rail stop near Ocean Avenue. 

Footage of the wild moment was captured and shared by another commuter, showing the two teens clinging onto the closed exterior doors of the tram. 

One teenage boy dressed in a light blue shirt and a pair of black shorts, and wearing a black backpack, clung to the doors while another boy in a white shirt with a backpack held onto the doors of the following light rail carriage. 

As the tram passed through the stop, the teens could be seen passing perilously close to the edge of the platform. 

Stunned onlookers watched on as the teens seemed unperturbed by their dangerous stunt. 

One witness told the Gold Coast Bulletin the teenagers were ‘spiralling out of control’.

A spokesperson from GoldLinQ told Daily Mail Australia that the light rail tracks are for public transport and must not be used to endanger public safety. 

‘Safety is our number one priority and we continue to remind people that “tracks are for trams,’ the spokesperson said. 

‘A penalty of up to $619 can apply for interfering with a public passenger vehicle.’

Queensland Police told Daily Mail Australia no complaint had been received about the behaviour seen in the video. 

The latest incident comes after a terrifying video emerged in December last year of another teenager clinging dangerously onto the doors of a moving G:Link tram. 

After about 10 seconds, the teen appeared to let go of the tram door and fall onto the tram tracks. 

Footage of the shocking stunt was uploaded to TikTok with one user claiming in the comments section of the post that the boy was uninjured. 

A G:link spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia at the time that ‘reckless behaviour like this is extremely dangerous’.

‘We have a simple message for those engaging in this activity – don’t put yourself and others at risk.’

‘There are more than 300 CCTV cameras across the network, which are monitored 24/7, and this behaviour will be immediately reported to the Queensland Police Service.’ 

The G:link light rail service which opened up in 2014 is the only light rail network in Queensland. 

Thousands of passengers use the service which runs across 19 light rail stations on the Gold Coast. 

The trams travel at an average speed of 23km/h however the vehicles can reach speeds of up to 70km/h.
