A young mother-of-two hanged herself after ringing her ex-partner to say she had a nightmare, an inquest heard.

Chloe McMahon, 26, phoned up Jake Worswick early on October 24 saying she had suffered a bad dream.

He reassured her but when he went round to her home in Goose Green, Wigan, he found her dead in the hall of her home.

An ambulance was called and paramedics attended, but they confirmed she had died, reports Wigan Today.

Chloe had been referred to have help with mental health services and had made progress

Her inquest at Bolton Coroner’s Court heard a post-mortem examination found Chloe had died by hanging.

Assistant coroner Stephen Teasdale was told she had a ‘traumatic’ childhood and had taken overdoses as a teenager.

Her mother Lisa McMahon said they had been a ‘cry for help’ and not serious attempts to hurt herself.

She had been referred to have help with mental health services and had made good progress.

Assistant coroner Stephen Teasdale was told Chloe had a ‘traumatic’ childhood and had taken overdoses as a teenager.

But she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and continued to have disturbing nightmares.

By 2022 she had been prescribed anti-depressants to help improve her mood and tablets to help her sleep by doctors.

Just over a week before her death she denied having any suicidal thoughts to her mental health practitioner but never showed up at a follow up.

Mrs McMahon told the inquest she had received phone call from Chloe at 2.30am one day during the summer.

When she went to her house to check on her she saw what she believed was a method of attempting suicide, but Chloe insisted she would never use it.

Ms McMahon last spoke to her on video call on October 23 when she was at a neighbour’s house having Sunday dinner and was fine.

Mr Teasdale said he could not be sure Chloe intended to end her life, particularly due to the suspected PTSD.

Recording a narrative conclusion that she died by hanging but her intentions were unclear, he added: ‘I think it is quite difficult to determine what her specific intention was at that particular time, given her background.’
