Locals have banded together to help keep the elephant seal safe by putting up banners and tape and have urged people to keep their distance from the animal

‘He’s currently right near my car and I’m unable to get into it to get to work,’ Ms Harris told ABC Radio Hobart.

‘I rang my boss and let her know and she thought it was great.’

Ms Harris shared several pictures of Neil’s visit with her colleagues once she eventually arrived at the office.

Neil has become a popular attraction for locals and visitors in the area, galumphing from Primrose Sands beach and resting at various spots on the shore.

He even has his own Instagram page, set up by the Tasmania’s Marine Conservation program who tagged the animal and now track his movements.

Southern elephant seals migrate to various parts of sub-Antarctic Islands during September to November to breed.

Between January and April the animals are known to shed their hair and skin.
