A heart-stopping video captures the scary moment a six-month old puppy leapt from a moving vehicle on a busy Los Angeles freeway, but miraculously survived.

Near the Topanga exit of the 101 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, a little terrier mix puppy named Sophie leapt from the Cramer family’s Tesla of as the clan was traveling home from school one day.

A harrowing video shows the puppy sticking her head out the window before attempting to bolt and facing oncoming traffic including a semi-truck.

The Cramers were relieved and in disbelief to find out Sophie had gotten away after the accident with just some scrapes and a fractured hip

Lilah Cramer, one of the children in the backseat of the vehicle at the time, recalled, ‘I heard her scream and then she started tumbling down the road.’

The Cramer family had been fostering Sophie for a few weeks before the incident.

The video shows the small, white pup jumping out of a backseat window of the vehicle, tumbling a few times and proceeding to skirt an oncoming semi-truck and several other vehicles as she runs off to the side of the road.

Moments after the dramatic jump, the video – recorded by the Tesla – shows that Ryan Cramer and his two children have pulled over to the shoulder of the freeway and are running to find their missing puppy, who they fear has become roadkill.

‘I jump out of the car and you could hear the traffic and the other things occurring,’ Cramer said. ‘That’s something that the video doesn’t show and it was very scary.’

Somehow, the pup survived the fall and the family scooped her up and rushed her to a nearby veterinarian’s office for treatment.

The animal doctor was shocked that Sophie survived and came away just having suffered just a hip fracture and some scrapes.

Dylan Cramer said Sophie’s recovery will take about eight weeks and she is so far doing well

Little Sophie is no longer a foster dog with the Cramers, Ryan surprised his children by adopting her into a permanent member of the family

Just two weeks after the accident, Sophie was able to walk again, and her full recovery is projected to take about eight weeks.

‘She’s already doing, like, really good,’ said Dylan Cramer.

Ryan credits the other freeway drivers for their alertness behind the wheel and quick responses in saving Sophie’s life.

‘Fortunately, we had other drivers that were aware and not on their phone and they were able to stop and help,’ he said.

It’s ‘just really awesome that we’re all here,’ he added.

Not only is it awesome, but Ryan told KTLA that he is planning to surprise his kids by telling them that Sophie will no longer be the family’s foster pup, but is going to become a permanent adopted part of the family.

The family hopes that by sharing the video of Sophie’s jump, they’ll be able to send a reminder to dog owners everywhere of the importance of pet passenger safety.
