A female English teacher once nominated for a Teacher of the Year award has been charged after allegedly raping a student.
Deputies from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina, USA, arrested Amanda Doll, 37, on Friday (September 2).
She appeared in court on Tuesday (September 6) where she was ordered to stay in custody in lieu of a $1million (£874,155) bail payment.

The judge refused to lower the bail despite pleas from her husband and children.
According to News channel ABC 11, the former West Johnston High School has been charged with statutory rape of a child aged 15 and taking indecent liberties with a child.
Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS) said she started at the school as a substitute teacher in May 2021 and was terminated from her teaching position on Friday.
In court, Doll asked Judge Paul A. Holcombe to lower her bond so she could be at home with her kids but the request was denied.
She also told the court that her husband was working on getting legal representation for her, but the judge assigned her a court appointed attorney regardless, according to ABC 11.

New court documents have confirmed that the victim is 15 and a student at the school Doll taught at.
Earlier this year, the 37-year-old was one of 33 JCPS teachers to be nominated for the school district’s First Year Teacher of the Year award, according to the district’s website.
JCPS said in a statement: "Johnston County Public Schools takes any allegations of staff misconduct seriously.
"Although we cannot discuss the specifics of an investigation into alleged staff misconduct, we can confirm that whenever such allegations arise, our administration responds swiftly, by investigating the allegations and, sometimes, by removing staff from classrooms pending completion of a thorough review.
"School administrators are always able and willing to speak with any and all parents who may have concerns."
She is due back in court on September 22.
