Donald Trump ‘unleashed vile slurs about Army vet left badly-disabled by IED blast after watching him sing God Bless America at military event’

Former President Donald Trump unleashed a vile tirade about a disabled war hero who sang at a military event over the IED victim’s appearance, a bombshell report has claimed.

The alleged incident emerged in a wide-ranging profile in The Atlantic on outgoing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, a frequent Trump critic.

It is claimed that at Milley’s welcome ceremony in Joint Base Myers, Virginia, after taking the top military job in 2019, Army captain Luis Avila’s wheelchair struggled to move after the ground was sodden by overnight rain. 

Avila was a five-tour veteran who was blown up in an IED attack in Afghanistan, and was chosen by Milley to sing ‘God Bless America’ at the event. Avila is an amputee who’s suffered a stroke, a heart attack and brain damage – with Milley choosing him to sing in the belief that he was a true American hero.

But after the veteran’s wheelchair almost toppled, Trump allegedly told Milley – within earshot of several witnesses – ‘Why do you bring people like that here? No one wants to see that, the wounded.’ 

The outburst is among a number of reported incidences of Trump showing a lack of respect for the armed forces, including allegations he branded soldiers who died in action ‘losers’ and ‘suckers.’ The former president famously dodged the Vietnam War draft by getting a doctor’s note claiming he was suffering from ‘bone spurs.’

A bombshell report has claimed that after Trump warmly greeted the Army captain, he berated Milley for inviting the disabled war hero and said ‘Why do you bring people like that here? No one wants to see that, the wounded’

The tirade, it is claimed, occurred soon after Milley accepted the job of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest-ranking officer in the US military and the principal military advisor to the president. 

At his welcome ceremony at Joint Base Myer Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia, the profile details how Milley was given ‘an early, and disturbing, insight into Trump’s attitude toward soldiers.’

According to the report, Milley picked Avila to sing ‘God Bless America’ because he ‘represented the heroism, sacrifice, and dignity of wounded soldiers’. 

The Army captain lost his leg in an IED attack in Afghanistan, before suffering two heart attacks, two strokes, and brain damage as a result of his injuries.

As Avila struggled to move through the turf at the Arlington base, Milley’s wife Hollyanne and Vice President Mike Pence ran to stop his wheelchair toppling. 

But when Avila finished the song, Trump was seen in footage of the event warmly greeting the war hero, before allegedly turning to Milley and launching into an outrageous rant. 

‘Why do you bring people like that here? No one wants to see that, the wounded,’ he allegedly said.

The alleged outburst ended with Trump berating Milley for inviting Avila, warning him to never let the veteran appear in public again. 

But Milley, who was profiled as he readies for his retirement, reportedly invited Avila to sing again at his retirement ceremony this year, four years after the reported incident.

The article delved into Milley’s distain for Trump during his time in the White House, a theme echoed by several other military commanders in the former president’s orbit who have claimed Trump lacks respect for the troops. 

This includes retired Marine general and Trump’s chief of staff from 2017 to 2018, John Kelly, who said Trump is ‘the most flawed person’ he’d ever met, first reported by CNN. 

Esteemed four-star general and Trump’s Secretary of Defense from 2017 to 2019 James ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis felt similarly, writing in 2020 that Trump was ‘more dangerous than anyone could ever imagine.’ 

The report claims that Milley was upset by Trump’s treatment of Avila because ‘Trump’s attitude toward the uniformed services seemed superficial, callous, and, at the deepest human level, repugnant’

Trump has a history of run-ins with top military chiefs, including Marine general and his former chief of staff John Kelly, who dubbed Trump ‘the most flawed person’ he’d ever met 

In a scathing report that same year, Trump also allegedly branded soldiers who died in action as ‘losers’ and ‘suckers’, and argued against including wounded soldiers at military parades ‘on grounds that spectators would feel uncomfortable in the presence of amputees.’

The alleged rant over injured soldiers also saw the then-commander-in-chief say ‘nobody wants to see that’, similar to the reported outburst over Avila the year prior.  

As detailed in his profile, this alleged distaste for veterans led to a tense relationship between Milley and Trump, because ‘these sorts of moments, which would grow in intensity and velocity, were disturbing to Milley.’

‘As a veteran of multiple combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, he had buried 242 soldiers who’d served under his command. 

‘Milley’s family venerated the military, and Trump’s attitude toward the uniformed services seemed superficial, callous, and, at the deepest human level, repugnant.’
