The US Embassy in London has shown their support for England’s Lionesses ahead of their show-stopping finale against Germany on Sunday by recreating Alessia Russo’s backheel goal in a hilarious clip.

On Twitter, the embassy shared a skit where Aaron Snipe, the US Embassy spokesperson, walks along the England bunting-covered corridors of the Nine Elms office before being stopped by colleague Rita Rico, the deputy press attaché.

She shows him a document before telling him: ‘Look at the rules. As a US diplomat you can’t take a position on this – you cannot support England in the Euro finals.’

Mr Snipe takes a look at Ms Rico before scrunching up the piece of paper, and in slow motion, he drops it to the floor, only to kick it in the same jaw-dropping way England forward Alessia Russo dashed the ball backwards into the goal.

Mr Snipe told MailOnline that the video was originally the brainchild of two British social media team members at the embassy, with the help of two other American colleagues.

He said: ‘Obviously we are huge, huge fans of England football at the embassy.

‘The US ambassador and every member of the embassy is rooting for the Lionesses and we can’t wait until Sunday when they beat Germany!’

He also told MailOnline that the team in London have a little competition between their German counterparts in Berlin.

After sending the 42-second clip to the US Embassy in Berlin, Germany, the team are said to have shrugged it off, replying: ‘Yeah, yeah.’

Manchester United player and Lioness Alessia Russo has come off the bench in all of the Euro 2022 group matches and is now the joint-second top scorer at the tournament.

Russo has previously played for Chelsea, Brighton and Hove Albion and North Carolina Tar Heels, and has represented England at all age groups.

Born in Maidstone in Kent, Russo rose through the ranks to become a star in women’s football – before her mind-bending backheel goal helped the Lionesses smash Sweden out of Euro 2022 on Tuesday night.

Recently, the new US ambassador Jane Hartley invited the Lionesses to her official residence, Windfield House in Regent’s Park.

When asked which notable Britons she would be most interested in meeting during her time in London, she said: ‘I would like to meet the Lionesses,’ The Times reported.

She described the semi-final earlier this week as ‘amazing’, telling of how she and her husband Ralph Schlosstein were ‘yelling as each goal was coming in – especially the backfoot one. I was so impressed’, she said.

In response to the skit, ambassador Jane Hartley tweeted: ‘Wembley is still over 48hrs away – get back to work, Aaron Snipe! (Go, #Lionesses!)’

Alessia Russo came off the bench again to score the third in England’s 4-0 mauling of Sweden on Tuesday night

For the men’s Euros last year, Aaron Snipe also got involved in the English patriotisms as the England team made it to the final against Italy on July 11.

In the skit, he sits at his desk with a TV prepared for each of the games on the lead-up to the quarter final, where England won 4-0 against Ukraine.

The clip begins with US flags decorating the room, but game by game, Mr Snipe adds Union Jacks, then slowly more England bunting and decorations as the Three Lions make their way through the tournament.

The embassy’s skit garnered over 174,000 views last year, and just three hours after sharing the funny video for the Lionesses, over 74,000 have viewed today’s tribute to Alessia Russo.
