How can I become a postman?
The role of a postman can be physically demanding, you could be expected to carry heavy bags of parcels in all types of weather over a long distance.
The job also operates different shift patterns, some shifts starting as early as 5:30 am.
Although, the earlier you start, the earlier you finish, if you start at 5:30 am you can expect to finish your shift around 1 pm that afternoon.
One option is you could do an express delivery operative intermediate apprenticeship, if you want to work as a postman with driving and collections duties.

Royal Mail often recruit temporary staff, which can be a useful way to gain some experience and apply for permanent jobs as they come up.

What qualifications do I need to become a postman?
Unlike a lot of public sector jobs, there are no specific qualifications required to become a postman.
According to the .gov website, aspiring postal workers need to have at least an English and Maths GCSE, or equivalent, to be accepted onto an intermediate apprenticeship.
Anyone over the age of 16 can apply for this apprenticeship scheme.
However, to apply for a postal role, the individual must be over 18 years of age.
It is a job that is likely to keep you physically fit, with plenty of fresh air and dealing with members of the public on a daily basis which can be perfect for the type of 'people person' who would ideally suit the role.
