Women’s Super League clubs will feature on FIFA 23 for the first time

Women’s football clubs including England’s Women’s Super League will feature for the first time ever in the next FIFA football game, FIFA 23.

Clubs in England’s and France’s top leagues, the Women’s Super League and Division 1 Féminine, will feature with international women’s teams in the latest release of the longrunning EA Sports franchise.

The FA’s commercial director Navin Singh said he was ‘delighted’ by the move, saying it supports their goal to ‘accelerate the growth of the women’s game in England’.

Gamers will also be able to play both the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cups in the same game for the first time.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand will be included as a post-launch update for free.

The Australian-born footballer won this year’s Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year in after being voted the best of the season in English Football.

In April she broke her own club record for goals scored in consecutive matches, being instrumental in a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur

Until now, female footballers have only appeared on regional covers of installments of the popular video game series.

In 2015, Canadian Christine Sinclair and American Alex Morgan appeared alongside Argentina’s Lionel Messi on the North American editions of FIFA 16.

‘The added visibility a global brand like EA Sports will provide for our league, teams and players cannot be underestimated.

‘This very much supports our ambition to accelerate the growth of the women’s game in England, and highlights our commitment to open up the Barclays Women’s Super League, and make it even more accessible, to new audiences around the globe.’

FIFA 23 releases on September 30 for PlayStation 5, XBox Series X|S, PC and Stadia, as well as last generation consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Pre-orders are available now with early access for FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition beginning on September 27.

FIFA 23, will be the last football video game from EA Sports to have FIFA branding as the games company’s partnership with the international football body comes to an end.
