Amy Dowden’s ex partner is ‘praying for her everyday’ after ‘very hard’ reunion

Amy Dowden on how Strictly friendships ‘saved her life’

Strictly Come Dancing star Karim Zeroual has spoken of the bittersweet moment he saw Amy Dowden make an appearance on the BBC show earlier this month amid her breast cancer battle.

Amy, 33, and Karim, 29, struck up a close friendship back in 2019 when they were partnered up on the show and made it to the final.

Almost three years on from the special moment, the dancer was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and, in September, shaved off her hair after it began to fall out.

Earlier this month, she bravely chose to not wear a wig as she reunited with her Strictly co-stars to read out the show’s voting information, as her on-screen comeback left viewers in tears.

Reflecting on her emotional Strictly reunion, Karim said: “It filled me with so much joy, she’s beautiful, bless her.

“It made me very happy to see her back with the Strictly family.

“I know that she loves it there, she loves everyone there.

“So it was really nice to see her, although very hard as well, because I want to see her dancing again.”

Karim said he regularly sends his ex-dance partner “love, energy and guidance” adding: “I literally pray everyday that she fight this, I know she will.

“She’s our Welsh dragon and I’m sure she’s going to be absolutely fine.”

Most recently, Amy revealed the “finish line is in sight” in a positive update on her chemotherapy treatment.

After a setback in treatment earlier this week, she took to Instagram to tell fans everything was on track alongside a picture of her alongside a fellow patient.

The dancer wrote: “Yayyyyy my blood platelets were all good to go for chemo 7 and it was lovely @kiimmbo.6 7th too (a fellow pink sister on a similar journey) for us both next session we should be ringing that chemo bell and I simply cannot wait!

“So good to chat again today all things chemo and breast cancer. The finish line is in sight for us lovely.”

Due to her treatment, Amy was unable to perform on the show this year, but there are high hopes she’ll be back next series.

Head judge Shirley Ballas told The Mirror: “I know her fight having known her as a little girl and she will be back on that show by next year.

“We love her, we miss her. She’s very creative, she’s so positive when you go on tour with her, she gets you upbeat.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues at 6.45pm on BBC One.

Karim is currently undergoing rehearsals for his upcoming stint in hit family favourite Madagascar The Musical. For more details, click here.
