BBC Breakfast host Jon Kay has addressed his co-star’s recent absence from the morning show. The 54-year-old said the presenter shake-up, which has seen him co-hosting with a string of female presenters, is like “speed dating”.

Jon, who usually presents the programme with Sally Nugent from Monday to Wednesday each week, had Sarah Campbell step in on Monday (December 4).

Tina Daheley joined Jon on the famous red sofa on Tuesday (December 5) and his next co-host will be radio presenter Rachel Burden.

Jon concluded Tuesday’s show by saying: “Thanks for joining us on Breakfast. We’re back from 6 tomorrow. I think Rachel is here tomorrow.”

Tina confirmed: “Yes,” adding: “You’ve had someone different every day this weekend haven’t you?” Jon replied: “Yeah, it’s like speed dating.”

He then handed over to Gethin Jones on BBC’s Morning Live. While it’s not been confirmed why Sally has been absent, it’s believed it could be down to her taking part in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.

The newsreader recently announced she has joined the star-studded line-up for the annual festive episode.

The television presenter has been partnered with Italian dancer Graziano Di Prima, who was originally paired with Zara McDermott in the main show before they were eliminated a few weeks ago.

Sally confirmed the news with some sweet snaps of herself with Graziano on the Strictly set. She penned: “I was in need of a little pick me up when the lovely people at Strictly called.

They kindly suggested I might like to learn to dance with @grazianodiprima in time for Christmas. I am definitely not a dancer – but I will try my best.

“And there is no one better to learn with. Join us on our Christmas adventure and I guarantee that we will all have fun along the way. Ciao.”

Sally will be dancing alongside other famous faces such as rugby player Danny Cipriani, journalist Dan Snow and EastEnders actor Jay Borthwick.

She also previously shared on BBC Breakfast in a chat with Jon that she’s finding training for the Strictly Come Dancing special “hard” and “full-on.”
