Billie Eilish tells Dua Lipa body image doesn’t control her ‘day to day life’

Billie Eilish shares that she’s thankful for her family

Bad Guy singer Billie Eilish has opened up about finally feeling comfortable in her body.

Speaking to fellow pop superstar Dua Lipa on her At Your Service podcast the 21-year-old was discussing personal growth and what had changed in her life now that she is no longer a teen.

“I think the thing that I’ve noticed has grown the most, if I’m really thinking about it, is my comfortability with myself. I think…feeling comfortable enough in my body to let that not control my entire day-to-day life any more,” she said.

“I think I’ve just become more versatile as a person. There were a couple of years when I was just kind of like, ‘No this is who I am and this is what I want to do and I’m not going to do anything else’. Or more like I’m scared to do anything else and I just feel like I’m not going to do it well.

“And I think over the last couple of years I’ve really let myself be like, you know, i I’m interested in wearing this I’m going to wear this, or if I’m interested in doing this I’m going to do this. I’m not going to let this box I’ve created around myself tie me down,” she explained.

Her remarks came after she opened up to Vogue about body shaming saying that she had a “rough time” dealing with hurtful comments.

“It’s tough, man,” she confessed to the fashion magazine. “Honestly, nobody can say anything about my body that I don’t have a stronger opinion about.

“I also think that if I was younger, like if the internet talked about me the way they do now when I was like 11, I don’t think I would be able to exist, to be honest.”

She continued: “I like myself more than I used to, and I’m more interested in how I feel than how they feel.”

Having been in the public eye since she was just 14, when she had her first hit with Ocean Eyes, the star is acutely aware that most of her life has been documented. However, she admitted that the realities of this only hit her recently.

“I would do interviews with people over 35 and I was like 16 or 15,” she recalled to Dua, “and they would always say to me, ‘Oh my God…how are you doing this? Because if I had any camera on me when I was your age I would be so mortified.’”

And I remember thinking at the time…why would I be mortified? I’m not doing crazy s***. And now I’m like, well, God!

“It’s scary [growing up on the internet]. It just lives on and it never goes away,” she confessed.

The star, who recently enjoyed a huge hit with the song What Was I Made For from the Barbie soundtrack, was speaking ahead of numerous festival appearances including Leeds and Reading this weekend, Rock En Seine in Paris and Ireland’s Electric Picnic next weekend.
