England’s Lionesses arrive for Women’s World Cup opener against Haiti

England Women are hoping to get their World Cup glory underway this morning, as they play their first game in the tournament.

The Lionesses have been greeted by thousands of football fans as they face Hait’s national team at Lang Stadium in Brisbane with a 10.30am kick-off which is 7.30pm in local time in the sunshine state.

Many fans from England have made the 24 hour journey to support their national team, with plenty of St George’s flag-clad supporters cheering them on already.

Anticipation is high for the women to take to the pitch, after a spectacular victory at the Euros last year.

England Women’s coach Sarina Wiegman yesterday confirmed in a press conference that captain Millie Bright will be fit and ready for the match, and all 23 players had trained yesterday, on Friday July 21.

Wiegman insisted England won’t be stepping into the unknown when they face World Cup debutants Haiti, but the tournament has already seen surprise results with co-hosts New Zealand beating a talented Norway side and Nigeria holding Olympic Champions Canada.
