Happy Valley’s Sarah Lancashire gifts her co-stars a parting present to mark the end of series three following the success of dramatic and violent finale

Happy Valley star Sarah Lancashire has gifted her co-stars a parting present to mark the end of series three.

On Sunday night, the final episode of the BBC drama lived up to the incredible hype with many viewers hailing the episode as ‘a masterpiece’ and ‘one of the greatest television finales of all’.

Sarah’s lead performance as Sgt Catherine Cawood was lavished with praise from critics and fans alike, as her final showdown with James Norton ‘s Tommy Lee Royce (or as she described it ‘a bit of a tussle’) was deemed the perfect way to end the series.

While many fans were expecting a high-octane conclusion, and perhaps even Catherine’s demise, writer Sally Wainwright’s decision to pivot her finale around a 15 minute long kitchen table war of words between Tommy and Catherine left viewers in awe.

And to mark the end of a hugely successful television series which first started in 2014, the leading lady decided to commemorate their time together spanning over eight years with a token gift before they said goodbye.

Local soap store The Yorkshire Soap company posted a snap of the specially-made candle that 58-year-old Sarah picked for her colleagues.

The white candle sits in clear glass casing with a golden metallic lid, with black and white packaging.

On the front of the candle, the words ‘The Happy Valley Triology – 2014-2022’ were written within a police badge outline.

Underneath features a quote from Sgt. Catherine Cawood, which read: ‘I’m the best copper that ever lived but Code 11…… job done.’

They wrote in the caption: ‘Some of you may know #HappyValley is set in our Home Town of Hebden Bridge and filmed across the wonderful county of Yorkshire!

‘Whilst filming in town we had the pleasure of welcoming the amazing Sarah Lancashire into our shop, and over the summer of 2022 we worked together on a special gift from her to the entire cast and crew for wrapping the final season.

‘A very Yorkshire Happy Valley Candle. During this time she donated to us, the police hat and shoulder numbers from season 3 that went on to raise an amazing £4500 at a charity event organised by The Halifax Ukrainian Club.

‘She deserves every award possible for her work on this brilliant series, and like the whole country, we’ll be glued to the tv this Sunday for the final episode!’

After he escaped court and broke into Catherine’s house, Tommy (James Norton) lay in wait until the officer returned home.

And fans were left screaming ‘oh my f**king God’ as the villain attempted to end his own life after telling Catherine (Sarah Lancashire) that he forgave her for keeping the news he had a son from him.

The two characters had a tense confrontation as they came face-to-face for the final time, with Tommy realising he’d reached the end of the road when he’d come to the conclusion his son Ryan was happier living with her.

As things came to a head, the escaped convict realised he had nowhere left to turn and set himself alight – before Catherine rushed to put out the flames with a blanket.
