Harry Potter stars scandalous romances from A-list love triangle to airline romp

This week, fans were moved to tears following the announcement of Sir Michael Gambon’s death at 82 years old.

As tributes poured in from friends and colleagues of the Harry Potter star many reflected on his role as Dumbledore, as well as his life away from the big screens.

Throughout his tenure in six of the films, the actor’s marital life often made headlines because he was married while maintaining an open love affair with his mistress.

Before his death, Gambon married Lady Anne in 1962 but ultimately decided to embark on a new romance in 2002.

He got involved with set designer Phillpa Hart, who was 25 years his junior and they welcomed two children together.

After the birth of their second child in 2009, a source told The Sun: “Michael is open with his wife and she accepts the second relationship, though there have been rows in the past.”

Kenneth Branagh’s love triangle

When Branagh landed the role of Gilderoy Lockhart, he was married to iconic actress Emma Thompson after tying the knot in 1989 and among fans, they were lovingly dubbed “Ken and Em.”

However, their fairytale turned to despair when the actor began having an affair with Helena Bonham-Carter while filming 1994’s Frankenstein.

After his divorce was finalised in 1995, Branagh and Helena were together for four years before reuniting on the set of Harry Potter.

Emma has since forgiven Helena and told The Times: “You can’t hold on to anything like that. It’s pointless. I haven’t got the energy for it. Helena and I made our peace years and years ago.”

Ralph Fiennes’ caught having an airline romp

The Voldemort star made headlines in 2007 when he was accused of having sex with flight attendant Lisa Robertson on a Qantas flight from Darwin to Mumba.

Although they initially denied escaping to the toilet for their steamy rendezvous, it was later determined the romp did take place and Lisa was fired from the airline.

At the time, Fiennes’ rep stated: “She (Lisa)initiated the encounter. This woman seduced him on a plane. She was the sexual aggressor.”

Although she initially said the actor initiated sex, Lisa later admitted: “We both did the wrong thing, you know. What we did was silly, and it was inappropriate and very unprofessional of me.”

Scarlett Byrne posing for Playboy before marrying the Hefner heir.

Byrne is well remembered for her role as Slytherin student Pansy Parkinson who was first introduced in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

The actress sparked a frenzy in 2015 when fans learned she would be marrying Cooper Hefner, the son of Playboy’s founder Hugh Hefner.

Before walking down the aisle, Byrne posed nude front cover for the publication’s March/April.

The actress bared her bum for the camera and was topless as she looked over her shoulder for the snap, wearing nothing but a robe that hung off her elbows.

The couple have since got married and welcomed their first child in 2020, before the arrival of twins in 2022.
