Tragedy has struck: Jason Momoa has shaved off (most of) his beautiful, beautiful hair.

The actor, 43, shared a video of his lovely locks being snipped, chopped, and shaved almost to the skin by a close friend and we can almost hear hearts breaking around the world.

In the clip, Jason introduced himself to his followers, showed his (former) braids to the camera, and then explained the reason behind his decision.

‘Aloha, everyone,’ he opened the Instagram video in his typically warm manner – although the content did get more serious as he started to explain the reason behind the chop.

He continued: ‘Shaving off the hair, doing it for single-use plastics – I’m tired of these plastic bottles, we’ve got to stop. Plastic forks, all that s**t.’

His serious message was briefly interrupted by a slight breeze, which made Jason laugh as he hadn’t felt any wind against his head in some time.

‘Oh man, I’ve never even felt the wind right there!’

Ever since Jason became a household name after his appearance in Game of Thrones and landing the lead role of Aquaman in the DC Universe, his lengthy locks have become his signature.

But, as Jason implied in the video, he felt the need to do something shocking in order to raise awareness about our heavy reliance on single-use plastic.

He pleaded: ‘It goes into our land, goes into our ocean. I’m just seeing some things in our ocean that are so sad, so please, anything you do to eliminate single-use plastics in your lives – help me.’

He then took a moment to finish the video on a positive note, and recognise some of the changes that are already being made.

‘Plastic bottles are ridiculous. Now [a lot of people] are making the aluminium, which is fantastic,’ holding his own bottle to the screen.

Perhaps it goes without saying the people were rocked by the move – despite it appearing that Jason was holding onto a bit of his hair at the top.

‘Can’t imagine how many women are losing their s**t right now,’ one commenter accurately surmised, while another noted: ‘We did not approve this, did we?’

Jason is set to star as the villain in the next instalment of the Fast & Furious franchise, alongside Vin Diesel and new face Brie Larson.
