Piers Morgan has taken a swipe at Oprah Winfrey, 68, following her latest comments about peacemaking after he claimed she “enabled” the royal rift. The 57-year-old host spoke to Prince Harry, 37, and Meghan Markle, 41, in what was deemed a “bombshell interview” last year, after they stepped down as senior royals in 2020.

Speaking to Extra this week, the talk show host said she hopes the family can put their differences aside following the Queen’s death on Thursday.

She said: “I think in all families, you know, my father passed recently, this summer and when all families come together for a common ceremony, the ritual of, you know, burying your dead, there’s an opportunity for peacemaking… And hopefully, there will be that.”

After her comments, Piers took to Twitter to question her words.

In view of his 7.9 million followers, he wrote: “Great to see Oprah Winfrey call for a healing of massive rifts in the Royal Family.. that she enabled.”

Prince Harry and Meghan made a series of revelations about life as royals during their interview with the host.

The biggest talking point was when the Sussexes alleged that a family member had “concerns” about their son Archie’s skin colour.

When pressed further by Oprah, Prince Harry said he’d never reveal who it was.

He went on to say he felt trapped in the system, while Meghan said she felt suicidal and claimed she received no help about her mental health concerns.

After the headline-grabbing interview, Oprah said she had no idea how much of a “bomshell” it was going to be.

Speaking to Gayle King on CBS, she said: “I was doing an interview to offer them a platform to tell their story about why they left, and that was my number one intention was just clarity on ‘why did you leave?’

“And so some of the things that were revealed in that interview came as a surprise to me and those surprises are now referred to as ‘bombshell’.

“But I didn’t set out to do a ‘bombshell’ interview. I set out to do an interview, have a conversation that would allow them to tell their story.”

Piers ranted about the pair’s comments on Good Morning Britain the next day, which saw him clash with co-star Alex Beresford.

The presenter admitted he didn’t believe a word Meghan had said and accused the pair of “trashing” the royal family.

After a heated debate with his co-star, he walked off the set before returning for a more calmer discussion.

His comments however were the result of 50,000 Ofcom complaints, one of which reportedly came from Meghan.

ITV later revealed that Piers had left the show.

Giving his say after, the journalist said his departure happened after he refused to apologise for his comments.

He now fronts his own show titled Piers Morgan Uncensored.

Announcing his new project earlier this year, he told fans: “It’s time to put the world to rights”.
