Power couple Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott plan to ‘conquer America’

If anyone has achieved their goals in 2023, it’s power couple Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott. Zara, 26, wowed viewers when she showed off her dance moves on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, while 31-year-old Sam was crowned King of the Jungle on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Now, the pair, whose love life originally played out on screen during reality show Made In Chelsea, hope to make the most of their joint star power – and a source exclusively reveals to OK! that includes exciting opportunities across the pond.

“Sam’s profile has catapulted since appearing on I’m A Celeb and winning the competition was the cherry on top,” they tell us. “Plus, Zara’s Strictly stint means they are both on the way up. Their real dream though is to crack America.”

Sam and Zara – who started dating in 2019 after meeting through Instagram – have already been open about their ambitions and what they would like to achieve.

The duo may have had an incredibly successful three months on primetime TV, but the source tells us this could just be the beginning. “They want to start doing things as a couple as well as separately, there are even talks of them doing This Morning ,” the source continued. “They’re so in love and sweet, the public love them and they’re set to be the next power couple.”

When Sam blagged the coveted jungle crown on the ITV1 show and won the hearts of the nation after making friendships with Tony Bellew and Marvin Humes, it made him a household name.

But he’d already been making waves back home with BFF Pete Wicks – who he met on E4’s Celebs Go Dating in 2019 – as the pals have forged a successful career as co-presenters on their hit podcast Staying Relevant , which is going on a sell-out
tour next year.

Sam, who first catapulted to stardom on Made In Chelsea, also co-hosted the red carpet at this year’s National Television Awards and fronted his very own Channel 4 documentary Sam Thompson: Is This ADHD?

And if that didn’t keep him busy enough, he also has a daily show on Hits Radio. But this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Sam’s goals, as he previously admitted, “I look at Ant and Dec as heroes and if I could do even a millionth of what they do I think I’d die a happy man. I would absolutely love to do some sort of entertainment stuff.”

And his other half Zara, who might be best known for rising to fame on Love Island in 2018, has been working hard behind the scenes to create a career for herself in front of the camera.

Aside from her stint in the Strictly ballroom, she has fronted several hard-hitting documentaries, including one on revenge porn and rape culture, and another on eating disorders in young people.

Reflecting on her milestones, she told The Evening Standard, “I’m incredibly proud of myself for getting here. I’ve really worked so hard on my documentaries.

“Look, I did Love Island for 10, 11 days, and I’ve been making documentaries now for three years full time. All my time goes into them, I invest my whole soul into them.

“So, for me, I’ve come a long way since the reality world, and I feel like I’ve changed that perception. Just because you come from
a reality show doesn’t mean that you can’t go on to do other huge, amazing things.”

Recently, Zara, who was once employed by the government as an Operational Officer at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, has also been working closely with the Princess of Wales on her Shaping Us campaign – which aims to highlight the importance of early years development.

Since moving in together in 2021, after a brief split, their relationship has gone from strength to strength. Now, with 2024 on the horizon, it appears the couple hope to capitalise on this moment to make it big, putting one very important thing on hold.

According to our source, they’re now so focused on their careers that the idea of starting a family has been put on the
back burner for now.

“Sam has spoken about kids and it is something they want but they are focusing on their careers,” the source explains. “They’re both ambitious, Zara even more so than Sam, and she has so much she wants to do before they settle down properly.”

Zara even joked earlier this year, “My career is my child. I always thought I can’t wait to be a mum, and now that time has come, my priorities have shifted.”

We can’t wait to see what’s next for the pair!
