TOWIE’s Yazmin Oukhellou ‘tried to wake Jake McLean’ in car crash ‘but I knew he’d gone’

TOWIE star Yazmin Oukhellou has said there’s not a day that goes by when she doesn’t think about the horror crash that killed her on-off partner Jake McLean.

Jake was driving the pair home from a nightclub in Turkey when their vehicle overturned and plunged down a ravine.

Yaz managed to free herself from the wreckage and call for help and now, three months on, she's updated fans on her gruelling recovery.

In a new interview, she explains how when she came round in the overturned car, she tried to wake Jake up but "knew in my gut he’d gone".

After tumbling into a ravine, their vehicle had come to a halt upside down and Yaz's arm was trapped behind her back in the open sunroof. She knew she would have to break her arm to escape.

Yaz told The Sun: “I knew I had to get out of the car and somehow I found the strength to free my arm by lifting it with my left hand, moving my right arm up and dropping it back down for what felt like forever until I snapped it free.”

She later discovered she had severed an artery in her arm but thanks to pure adrenaline, she managed to climb up the cliffside and back to the road.

Despite the crash happening in the early hours, Yaz found a man walking his dog who called for an ambulance and while waiting for paramedics to arrive, Yaz scrambled back down to the wreckage.

“I knew in my gut he’d gone,” she said. “They said they were taking him to another hospital and kept telling me he was alive and OK – I think because they didn’t want to cause me any further distress.”

Yaz was later informed Jake had died as she was receiving general anaesthetic so surgeons could operate on her arm.

She woke up from her operation in a state of despair and was desperate to see her mum, who by this time was en route from the UK.

Her mum slept beside her bed for a month on their return to Essex and Yaz still suffers from harrowing nightmares.

The star, who has also been diagnosed with PTSD, said: "It’s not always the same thing I flashback to, but the main one I get is going off the cliff. I feel that drop in my stomach. It’s the flashbacks that form the biggest part of my PTSD."

Jake was laid to rest in Essex, with loved ones including his ex Lauren Goodger gathering to say a final emotional farewell.

Yaz has been spending time at a wellness retreat in Morocco in a bid to process the ordeal and lower her anxiety levels.
