I spent £140 on a Japanese Spitz from a pet shop – after three months I noticed telling signs it wasn't even a dog | The Sun

A "DOG" owner was left baffled when she discovered her strangely behaving pooch was actually a wild fox.

The woman from China was stunned to realise that her seemingly innocent £140 Japanese Spitz was actually a domesticated fox.

Identified only as Ms Wang, the pet owner started becoming suspicious when the animal began rejecting dog food and never seemed to bark.

She had bought the pup from a pet shop in China before noticing its odd behaviour just months later.

The "puppy" had also developed a strange thick fur and long tail, leaving Ms Wang perplexed.

"The fur got thicker when it reached three months old. Its face became pointy and its tail grew longer than that of a normal dog,” she reportedly told local media outlet, Shanxi Network Television.

Before she discovered the truth about her "pooch", the confused owner said local residents had told her that her pet was a fox.

Eventually Wang addressed her suspicions and took the animal to Sun Letian, an expert in animal epidemic prevention at Taiyuan Zoo.

The local zoo worker examined the "puppy" and confirmed the animal was actually a fox.

He said: "Based on the size, it is a domesticated fox.

Even though the white-coated fox was only 12 inches long at the time, it was expected to continue growing even bigger.

Local media reported that Ms Wang gave up her fox to the zoo where it could receive better treatment and a more suitable living environment.

The fox was put into quarantine for a month before being placed in an enclosure.

This follows the wild story of a family who raised their beloved pooch for two years before realising it was actually an endangered animal.

The pet "Tiebetan mastiff" eventually weighed over 250 pounds and turned out to be an Asiatic black bear.

And a TikToker was left shocked after her £2,000 ‘purebred sausage dog’ turned out to be something completely different.

As it began to grow, the baffled owner began noticing her pooch was shapeshifting into different breeds.
