A DERMATOLOGIST has revealed the three mistakes you are making when it comes to reversing ageing.

Shereene Idris, a top skin doctor based in the US shared the common errors your making when it comes to anti-ageing skincare, and it makes all the difference when it comes to looking youthful.


Taking to social media, she said: "So your skin looks good but it doesn't look great, I'm a 39-year-old board-certified dermatologist, the top three things you are likely missing in order to have great looking thing."

The first step, which will come to no surprise to anyone is not being vigilant about sun protection.

And yes, this does mean wearing your SPF daily.

But she also revealed you need to take into consideration being outside when UV rays are at their highest, staying in the shade as much as possible and wearing clothes that protect you from the sun.

The second common mistake people make is not having a targeted skincare routine.

"What do I mean by this?" she asked, "Not trying to use every active under the sun, but using actives directly targeting your issue.

"Yes, so many people have many different issues all at once, but not all issues are created equally."

The skincare expert recommended focusing on your most prominent issue first, whether it be anti-ageing or acne as you will see the most benefit.

Different skincare problems will need to be addressed with different active ingredients, retinol works best for reversing wrinkles while vitamin C is great for making dull skin glow.

Lastly, Shereene revealed that consistency in your routine was much more important than intensity of the products you are using.

She explained: "Consistency is the name of the game.

"You cannot go to a dentist once a year for a teeth cleaning and expect your teeth to be perfectly clean all year long if you're not brushing your teeth every day.

"Same goes with your skincare routine."

The clip posted to her TikTok account @shereeneidriss where she regularly shares skincare advice has gone viral with over 95k views.

People were quick to thank her in the comments section of the post and agreed consistency was vital.

Another commented: "Yes consistency is KEY."

"You would think this is a no brainer but dermatologists look at me weird and ask me why I wear sunscreen every day," penned a third.
