Maintaining a youthful appearance isn’t skin deep – style can play an important part, too. Lifestyle and beauty influencer Dominique Sachse took to YouTube to share her top tip for shaving a decade off your look.

She stated: “I am super excited to do this one for you because I am truly of the belief that this will be a game-changer.”

She explained that the following “easy” and “basic” trick will help you look “10 years younger” instantly.

Dominique’s hack is totally free and doesn’t require you to purchase any new clothes.

Rather, it’s all about playing around with your existing wardrobe so it works for you.

Dominique believes that women tend to get more “simple” with fashion as they mature and consequently “limit” themselves to what they can wear.

This may stem from worries that they are too old, or that certain styles, colours and garments no longer suit their bodies.

For this reason, many mature women will play it safe with all-black looks, which the expert suggests they avoid.

Black is something everyone “universally feels comfortable in”, but it is possible to overdo it, according to Dominique.

However, Dominique did acknowledge the ease and accessibility of wearing all black.

She stated: “Black is tricky, yeah, it’s slenderising, it’s easy, you don’t have to figure a lot out – but here’s the problem.

“It can be really harsh against skin tone that gets lighter and more ashy as we age.”

Medicine Plus explained: “With ageing, the outer skin layer (epidermis) thins, even though the number of cell layers remains unchanged.

“The number of pigment-containing cells (melanocytes) decreases. The remaining melanocytes increase in size.”

The result is “thinner, paler” skin and a clear – “translucent” – complexion.

The problem with all black, according to Dominique, is that it can accentuate the hollows under the neck and the eyes.

She urged women to “ditch the all black from head to toe”, however the staple colour does not have to be abandoned entirely.

Black is still a chic, timeless clothing, shoe and accessories colour, so it can absolutely be worn in moderation for a youthful look.

The beauty guru recommended breaking it up with “skin-softening neutrals” such as beiges, tans or greys.

For example, rather than opting for a daring all-black ensemble, complete with jacket, blouse skirt and shoes, mature women could break this up with a houndstooth jacket and white blouse instead.

As opposed to black, a white blouse or top can brighten up the neck and face.
