Mum issues heartbreaking warning to be careful while sledding as temperatures plummet to -10c and snow hits the UK | The Sun

THERE’S nothing quite like the excitement of waking up to a fresh layer of snow on the ground.

And so for many of us today, there’s been snowball fights, snow angels and sledding exclusively on the agenda.

Although for one mum, things took a turn for the worse when her kids were involved in a ‘horror’ sledding accident.

YouTubers The McNeal Fam regularly share entertaining videos and parenting tips with their 57,000 subscribers.

But in one of their recent vlogs, dad Clay and mum Teri warned fellow parents about the dangers of sledding, and encouraged them to put helmets on their kids.

This came after two of their kids, Austin and Claire, ended up in the hospital.

During the 19-minute video, the family show kids Austin and Claire coming down a steep, snowy hill on the sledge.

They then both come flying off, and the rest of the family is seen rushing to check on them.

Outside the hospital, Clay updated their followers, saying: “Guys, we’re at the hospital right now. We’ve had an unfortunate sledding accident.

“Austin was sledding behind Claire as they went down a steep hill and they got to the bottom, there was kind of another hump and when they hit that hump, Austin’s chin went into the top of Claire’s head.

“So she’s definitely going to need stitches, and Austin’s possibly got a broken jaw. He’s got a chipped tooth and a cut chin.

“So they’re inside right now, they’re getting checked out and we’ll find out what’s going to happen.

In the comments, he added: “This was the scariest day of our lives.”

Checking back in after their kids had been checked over by doctors, Teri said: “So our fun day of sledding turned ugly very fast, and we’re just so grateful it was not worse than it was, because it was a pretty crazy wreck. It could have been so much worse.

“I don’t think we’ll be sledding anymore this winter. I’m traumatised, my kids are traumatised.

Dad Clay added: “Most people do not wear helmets when they go sledding. However, the next time we go, we will be taking helmets, maybe full hockey gear.

Teri replied: “We also learnt it’s safest to have the kids go in the sled one at a time, no more doubling up even though it’s fun.

“You just never know what’s going to happen.

“As we’ve been here reflecting on today, hindsight is 20/20 and there are so many things we will do differently next time to make sure that our kids are safe and protected.”

The family’s accident gained plenty of attention, with the video gaining more than 17,000 likes.

In the comments, the McNeel’s followers shared their well wishes, with one writing: “It’s all fun and games until you end up in the ER! McNeel family, my heart is breaking right now.
