A MUM was left mortified after her son decided his new favourite “toy” was her tampon applicator.

TikTok user @ourxpatlife showed her son, Ezra, two, carrying the plastic tube around in public.

Alessandra, from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire wrote: “What’s the weirdest ‘toy’ your toddler has become extremely attached to?”

She then showed the young boy playing with blue tubing in the back of the car.

She explained: "I probably reinforced it but I didn't really know what else to do other than say, 'That's a really cool key buddy'.

"He just kept playing with it and every time I tried to take it away or get him interested in something else he just couldn't live without it.

"He takes it everywhere with him and he's building a bit of a collection now – he's got a few lying around the house.

"I'm finding them everywhere, I can't get rid of them."

Alessandra, who emigrated from Utah, US, to the UK a year ago with 33-year-old husband Seth Hall, says that like most toddlers Ezra obsesses over 'things he can fidget with' that excite his imagination.

She said: "I love that they're creative enough at this point to find weird things and make them into their own fun thing to do.

"I guess that's the biggest reason I'm fine with it. They can take the most ridiculous things and make them really cool in their imagination.

"When we've been out and Ezra's had his toy with him no one's mentioned anything or haven't quite realised what it is, which is probably good.

"I'm sure they'd understand what it's like having a two-year-old who's obsessed with something you have no control over."

Ezra's obsession with 'tat' has led Alessandra to joke that parents should stop buying kids expensive gifts and just 'let them into the trash' to discover their next treasured toy.

Alessandra said: "You buy them all these wonderful things that they don't really care about.

"We have an entire playroom of toys and yet they're much more interested in tat.

"We buy these beautiful, cutting-edge learning toys and yet they just want to play with trash or plastic forks, like in Toy Story.

"We're definitely at that age where you buy them a gift and they just want the box and the tissue paper. Christmas is more about that than the actual toys.

"I've joked to my friends that they should just save money by letting their kids into the trash.

"They say their kids find the weirdest things and they wish they'd play with what they get them.

"Once they've made up their mind that's it – no one is more stubborn than a two-year-old."

Thankfully, it may not be as grim as it sounds, and she confirmed that it was “brand new and not used.”

Her sweet clip has racked up thousands of likes, and many people saw the funny side.
