Corrie Mike star’s life – real age, Emmerdale link and forgotten second role

Actor Tom Lorcan was introduced to Coronation Street viewers earlier this year when newcomer Mike Hargrave arrived in Weatherfield.

Mike appeared alongside his on-screen wife Esther Hargrave as the pair sought counselling for their marital troubles by Billy Mayhew.

Fans recently saw him embroiled in a scandalous baby storyline as youngster Summer Spellman recently suffered a miscarriage and is yet to tell Mike and Esther – who payed her £10,000 for the baby.

As the drama heats up on the cobbles, Daily Star has taken a look at the life of actor Tom.

Real age

As he tackles the storyline of a wannabe dad desperate to start a new family with his wife, Esther, fans naturally assume the star is a spritely young guy in his 30s.

Sporting a full head of a hair and trim beard, the handsome actor who clearly spends time in the gym, is actually surprisingly older than his character may seem.

Born in Leeds in 1982, actor Tom is 40 years old and trained at Bretton Hall College in Yorkshire before studying at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in Wood Green, North London.

He now lives with his partner Emily in London after they met during a theatre production they were both cast in.

“I live with my partner, Emily Shaw, in Crouch End.

She’s an actress and was just in the amazing RSC production of Matilda.

“We met when we were both out of work and got our jobs in Billy Elliot and Matilda on the same day!!” he told londontheatre1.

Tom also added that his long-term goal is to “just be happy and keep working. Eventually I would like to live abroad by the sea but I can wait.”

Emmerdale link

Eagle-eyed fans may remember the actor from another popular soap. In 2019, Tom made his screen debut on rival soap Emmerdale when he played a journalist in two episodes.

While the star has transition into TV roles, the majority of his Theatre work has been in London's West End in shows such as Blood Brothers, Jersey Boys, Fiddler on the Roof and Billy Elliot the Musical.

Tom also appeared in an episode of the BBC soap opera Doctors as Josh Tiverton. Tom players Lauren's husband who discovers that she had an affair with his friend, Miles Dryden during the couple's rough patch.

He’s also appeared in TV series’ Gentleman Jack and crime drama Grantchester.

Speaking of his glowing career, Tom admitted that his parents weren’t initially keen on him being an actor, and that they had hoped he’d “grow out of it.”

“I don’t think I ever told them. I think they may secretly be hoping that I might still grow out of it,” he said.

Forgotten second role

This isn’t the first time Tom has been in Coronation Street.

Back in 2018, he appeared in two episodes of the soap as a man who responded to a fake sex advert of Liz McDonald, posted by Jenny Connor

He also appeared in the first season of Netflix series Bridgerton playing Clyveden Footman.

Viewers may also recognise Tom from his roles in Dalziel and Pascoe, Waterloo Road as Julian Styles, Holby City as Ray Doherty, Hollyoaks as Simon Pearson and an appearance in crime drama, Wolfe.

Tom’s co-star Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Summer's adoptive father Billy Mayhew in Corrie, admitted that Tom’s current role as Mike Hargrave is set to take a very sinister turn.

“There is something a little sinister about them and watching them on screen, because a lot of their scenes were without me, so it is interesting to see if unfolding as a viewer.

"But yeah there will be plenty of twists and turns before the storyline finishes."
