Royal 'favourite' Sophie Wessex breaks protocol with bold beauty trend – did you spot it? | The Sun

ROYAL fans will know that there is strict protocol surrounding what members of the family can wear, and how they style themselves.

But Sophie Wessex appeared to break with tradition when she sported a red manicure – the complete opposite of the plain nails favoured by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Sophie, who is married to King Charles III’s younger brother Prince Edward, stepped out recently to visit the charity Step by Step.

The charity, based in Aldershot, works tirelessly to support young people in need, including those who are homeless, and is said to be one very close to Sophie’s heart.

However, it wasn’t long before onlookers spotted the scarlet shade on the 57-year-old’s hands.

This goes against the rumoured rules issued by the Palace under the Queen.

These are thought to include that the Royal women should have clean, plain-looking nails – particularly on engagements.

So much so that it’s often been reported that the Queen’s own personal favourite shade was none other than Essies’s Ballet Shoes.

Ballet shoes, which has become known as a regal shade, is a pale, nude, which gives an effortless sheen – the complete opposite of Sophie’s recent choice.

However, this is far from the only time that Sophie has shown her rebellious side when it comes to fashion and beauty.

In recent months, the Countess also caught people’s attention when she wore a leather dress.

During another charity visit – this time to Somerset based Brainwave – Sophie opted to wear a sleeveless leather number.

The mum-of-two teamed it with a red roll neck, ankle boots and jewellery and, at one point, an oversized coat.

But this was said to once again break with protocol, which reportedly states that Royals are “expected to keep their coats on at social events.”
