The celebrity facialist behind Bambi Northwood-Blyth’s radiant complexion has revealed how you can detox your skin after the holidays, and the one treatment you should introduce in 2023 for your best skin yet.

Ingrid Seaburn treats the faces of Australia’s rich and famous at her upscale Bondi salon.

The beauty guru, who boasts a star-studded client book, said the festive period and the month that follows not only takes its toll on your waistline, but also on your skin.

But there are five ways you can get back on track.

1. Invest in a vitamin C serum

The first thing Ingrid recommends you do is invest in a good quality vitamin C serum, as this is the product that plays a ‘vital role in protecting your skin from UV damage, increasing collagen protection and repairing environmental stress’.

‘It is a myth that vitamin C should be applied only in the morning,’ Ingrid told FEMAIL.

‘Your serum can be applied two or three times weekly at night or in the morning after cleansing and before moisturising.’

The facialist recommends choosing a ‘medical grade quality vitamin C’, which has a high percentage.

The important thing to remember with vitamin C is that you need to wear SPF on top of it to prevent your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

2. Cut sugar and starchy carbs

What you eat often has repercussions on your face.

And if you have spent the Christmas break eating and drinking too much sugar and alcohol, then it’s possible and likely your face will be looking a little puffy.

For this, Ingrid recommends steering clear of alcohol, refined sugar and starchy carbs.

Instead, she recommends incorporating a green juice daily, as well as a clean diet.

‘Avocado, dark green leafy salads and omega-rich fish like salmon combined with healthy fibre-rich wholegrains will help to return your glow in no time,’ she said.

Ingrid also likes to follow intermittent fasting as an approach every so often, which helps to rebalance her blood sugar levels and allow her hunger to regulate itself again.

3. Apply SPF

‘Our skin is more dehydrated from UV exposure in the summer,’ Ingrid warned.

‘Always apply and reapply your SPF and don’t forget to drink lots of water, apply hyaluronic acid and exfoliate with enzyme-based exfoliant to remove the dead skin cells once or twice per week.’

Hyaluronic acid is a miracle worker for the skin because it helps it to ‘retain hydration and gets your skin health back on track after all of those Champagnes you enjoyed’.

When it comes to how much sunscreen you should apply, the experts generally recommend 1/4 of a teaspoon for the face and 1/4 of a teaspoon for the neck.

4. Sweat it out

If there is one treatment you should be investing in in 2023, it’s an infrared sauna.

Ingrid said they are a ‘great way to detox impurities from your skin while also having the benefit of increasing cellular metabolism to get your sluggish cell turnover activated again’.

‘One sauna weekly is enough,’ Ingrid said.

‘Too many can wreak havoc with pigmentation issues as too much heat can trigger any hyperpigmentation.’

The benefits of an infrared sauna include relaxation, pain relief, improved heart health and soothing sore muscles.

5. Exercise

Finally, Ingrid said a good workout regime will work wonders at improving your skin.

‘Your skin is a reflection of how well you pump oxygen through your veins,’ she said.

‘Exercise is a no excuses part to your detox. Commitment to a daily workout session will have your skin glowing from all that oxygen rich blood flow.’

The facialist recommends eliminating toxins by getting a sweat on and working out for around 30 minutes daily.

‘Make sure you stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water before, during and after your sessions,’ she added.

INGRID’S FAVOURITE FIVE BUDGET SKINCARE PRODUCTS

‘The most important part of summer beauty at any age is sun protection: Always best to look for zinc or titanium oxide-based coverage and re-apply often,’ Indrid told FEMAIL.

‘I love Sukin Tinted Sunscreen. It has an SPF30 broad spectrum and most importantly all-natural physical Zinc based coverage that actually looks smooth and flawless.

‘Comparable to more expensive brands that boast a natural formula at under $20 it is a great buy.’

The former Los Angeles-based beauty guru, who boasts a star-studded client book, praised the likes of Sukin and Palmers brands for their skin-loving products at an affordable price point

Her second recommendation is an exfoliator to slough away a build-up of oil, bacteria, and dirt.

An inexpensive enzyme-based exfoliant by Palmers called the Purifying Enzyme Mask is half the price of most department store brands and will absolutely do the trick.

‘The enzyme mask uses papaya enzyme, a natural way to chemically dissolve dead skin cells without overspending,’ Ingrid said.

To retain moisture in the skin as we draw closer to summer Ingrid recommends using a moisturiser with hemp seed oil for its anti-inflammatory properties.

‘My favourite body product this summer is Freshwater Farm Hemp Seed Body Wash (left) to add a little oil to the shower routine to seal in soft skin vibes. Great for saving time and money,’ she said

‘We forget to apply SPF and there is a lot of talk about exfoliating lips which is not useful. You don’t have to spend to protect. I like Lip balm SPF 50 by Dermal Therapy . Not expensive and will save your lips from UVA/UVB damage,’ she said

For serums that pack a punch – on a budget – Ingrid can’t go past The Ordinary with niacinamide and zinc.

Those two active ingredients will improve your skin’s natural immune defence to UV.

‘Not expensive and easy to use. A great alternative for saving pennies,’ she said.

Last but not least Ingrid urges not to forget your lips this summer.

‘We forget to apply SPF and there is a lot of talk about exfoliating lips which is not useful. You don’t have to spend to protect. I like Lip balm SPF 50 by Dermal Therapy. Not expensive and will save your lips from UVA/UVB damage,’ she said.
