My daughter is struggling to make friends after her close friendship ended

Her confidence has taken a knock. She spends break times alone.

She’s started saying she wants to stay at home and I had to pick her up early one day last week as she said she had a tummy ache.

We’re not sure what to do. We understand kids will be kids, but this has been going on for a while now.

DEIDRE SAYS: Finding your place within social relationships at school is a big challenge for many children. Talk to her teachers to check she’s not being bullied.

Many children stop telling parents about their problems, for fear the parent will be upset and rush in, making things worse. The most important thing is to keep your daughter talking to you so you can support her.

Pick up on any particular interests she has and try out-of-school clubs, to give her the confidence and the settings she needs to make friends.
