The UK could see its first White Christmas in over a decade, experts predict

Following the record-breaking heat that the UK experienced over the summer, which saw temperatures reach over 40C, recent temperatures have remained unseasonably warm despite winter being on the horizon.

In fact, the UK is set for a further six-day long warm spell across the Halloween period, withsunny spells and temperatures as high as 23C predicted for some southern areas of the country.

However, while 2022 is expected to be Britain’s hottest year on record, things are set to change drastically and parts of the country could even experience their first white Christmas in years, with bookmakers slashing the odds on the possibility of seeing snow on Christmas Day.

With the last widespread white Christmas occurring in 2010, experts at OLBG betting guide claim that there is a 55% chance that Brits will see more snow again this festive season. And they’re not alone. Coral has also cut its odds on having a white Christmas from 2/1 to 4/5.

But if Christmas sounds too far away, according to the weather indicating model WX Charts, snow could potentially be seen in parts of Scotland overnight on Thursday 10 November, hitting both the Highlands and more populated central regions.

The map also suggests that some snow will reach parts of northern England, such as Newcastle, with the coolest weather being felt in the northwest.

During an interview withExpress.co.uk, Met Office spokesperson Stephen Dixon said: “The potential for some cooler weather increases from mid-November, with the coldest places most likely to be in the northwest.”

“There will be an ongoing chance later in the month that any showers could fall as snow for a time in the north, with the high ground most likely to see the highest of any accumulations.”

And according to theMet Office ’s long range forecast, conditions towards the end of November will be “unsettled” across most of the UK, with showers and long spells of rain predicted, before becoming calmer.

“From mid-November, conditions are likely to settle, potentially bringing colder, drier weather especially for northern and western areas,” the website reads.

However, given that the forecast is more than two weeks away, it can be difficult to predict exactly what conditions to expect as the weather remains changeable until closer to the time.

The news of cooler weather will come as a blow for many as the cost of living crisis continues to hit people’s pockets thanks to rising bills and energy costs.

As a result of the ongoing financial strain, various experts have been sharing their tips to help keep costs down, with Angellica Bell speaking exclusively to OK! about the tips that Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has given her over the years.

“One tip I think I'd give, which I always say is about being open about money. It’s a topic we struggle with and people don't like talking about is seen as uncouth,” she said.

She added: “Another thing that Martin always says to me is, ‘do you need it?’. Sometimes when we are going to purchase something I think ‘take a step back and pause’. So before you buy, think.”
