You can now stop seeing Facebook posts from people you don’t care about

Facebook users will once again be able to view their newsfeed in chronological order, thanks to a major update.

Facebook has announced it is introducing 'Feeds', a new tab for the newsfeed which lets you filter out 'recommended' content and only see posts from your chosen friends, groups, Pages and more.

While the Home tab will still serve up personalised content based on what Facebook thinks you'll like, the Feeds tab is designed to give you more control over the app.

The Feeds bar will appear from today as an icon on the mobile app, or a tab on the Facebook website.

On his personal Facebook page, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained the changes, saying: "One of the most requested features for Facebook is to make sure people don't miss friends' posts. So today we're launching a Feeds tab where you can see posts from your friends, groups, pages and more separately in chronological order.

"The app will still open to a personalized feed on the Home tab, where our discovery engine will recommend the content we think you'll care most about. But the Feeds tab will give you a way to customize and control your experience further."

The new feed mirrors changes at Meta's other social media app, Instagram, which brought back the 'most recent' feed earlier this year.

Instagram users now have access to Home, which offers personalised content like Facebook; Favourites, which lets you curate posts from selected accounts; and Following, which shows everything on your Instagram in chronological order.

Both Instagram and Facebook used to show all content chronologically, but began using algorithms to send targeted content to users as advertising became more dominant on the platforms.
