A Place In The Sun presenter Craig Rowe has admitted “it’s hard” monitoring his pre-diabetes with his hectic schedule, but he says he “just has to do the best” he can. The Bristol-born property expert is conscious of managing his condition, which means balancing his blood sugar and has had to come up with clever ways to ensure he stays healthy since his job involves a lot of travel and erratic hours.
“It’s hard. I’m not gonna lie. It’s really hard,” he admitted exclusively to Express.co.uk. “I think two words – protein shake and a yoga mat. I’ve always got those two things with me because one of the ways to sort of help balance blood sugar is to keep the protein levels high.”
“I will often grab a protein shake on the run because when I first started doing this job I did put on about a stone because I was eating in hotels. Even though I was working there was this beautiful hotel buffet and it just got ridiculous,” he admitted.
“I just realised early on I can’t keep doing this. So I will often take protein shakes, I’ll just try and make good choices – chicken and fish when I’m away. I’ll have a salad. I mean if there’s a gym occasionally, I’ll get a chance to get to one after work.”
“But even if I finish at nine o’clock at night or I’ve got my yoga mat I’ll do some yoga and a few press ups and I’ll just do some YouTube fitness videos. But it is hard,” he conceded.

“And don’t get me wrong. I’m saying all this but sometimes I’m just exhausted.
“I just think, ‘You know what, Craig just do the best you can.’ But it’s hard being on the road and managing prediabetes is very hard but in a way because I sort of have to manage it.
“I just have to do the best I can and you know just stay away from the French and Spanish cakes,” he laughed.
Despite the extra effort that has to go into controlling his condition Craig, who is a proud ambassador for Diabetes UK, still loves his job.

“It’s a very, very unique job,” he ponders. “You’re sort of on the road a lot on away from family and friends. And also it’s a brilliant job, but it’s hard work. It’s a long day. There’s lots of travel. So it’s hard work, but it’s hugely enjoyable.”
Craig will be back on our screens on the popular Channel 4 property show on December 22 and he promises viewers are in for a real treat.
“As an episode, it had lots of twists and turns,” he reveals. “In a way that I think you’ll hardly ever see on A Place In The Sun. So I think it should be a good episode.”
A Place In the Sun is on Channel 4 on weekdays at 4pm.
