BBC Breakfast’s Owain Wyn Evans bags exciting new show – gushing 'I can't wait!' | The Sun

WEATHER-MAN Owain Wyn Evans has just announced a huge new role, replacing a radio legend.

The Welsh star, who is best known for working on BBC Breakfast, has landed an exciting gig on BBC Radio 2.

Owain, 38, is taking over Vanessa Feltz' old Early Breakfast Show slot, after she made the decision to step down in July.

In a new move for BBC Radio, Owain's show will be recorded at the BBC Cymru Wales broadcast centre in Cardiff.

This will make it the first ever live Radio 2 weekday show which is permanently recorded outside of London.

He shared the news on Twitter, writing: "💥 SOME NEWS 💥

In a separate statement announcing the news, Owain has admitted he's over the moon with the opportunity.

He said: "When I asked my parents for a pair of turntables and a mixing desk from a DJ shop in Llanelli when I was 13 I never allowed myself to dream that one day I'd have my own show on Radio 2! 

“I can’t wait to help kick start the day on Early Breakfast live from Cardiff.”

Head of BBC Radio 2, Helen Thomas, said of Owain: “I’d like to welcome Owain to the Radio 2 family.

“His deep connection with Wales is obvious and I’m delighted he will be broadcasting live from Cardiff every weekday morning. 

“His warmth and wit make him the perfect host to set up the day for our listeners right across the country who have clearly and warmly taken him to their hearts each time he has presented in this slot.”
