BBC Strictly Come Dancing star slams fans for dragging them down days before final

Layton Williams has slammed fans of Strictly Come Dancing who have been sending him hateful comments following weeks of online trolling.

The 29 year old star, who is competing on the BBC One show with pro dancer Nikita Kuzmin, has wowed on the Strictly dance floor week after week and continued to top the leaderboard, but that hasn't stopped TV viewers sending him hateful messages on social media.

Former Strictly pro Robin Windsor took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his support for Layton on Sunday, 10 December, before the results show aired and urged people to stop "bullying" Layton.

Robin, 44, who left Strictly in 2014, wrote: "STOP this hatred for @laytonwilliams it's BULLYING ffs. The poor guy sees all these comments everyone tags him in – how is that supposed to make him feel".

He added: "You should all be ashamed of yourselfs. What ever happened to be KIND ? #mentalhealth".

Layton was quick to respond to Robin's message and thanked him for his support, before issuing a message to those sending him hurtful messages on social media.

The 29 year old responded: "Thanks Robin. Luckily I have thick skin but it's so draining that so called ‘Strictly fans’ go out of their way to drag me down to lift others up."

He continued: "Their fave couples would be SO embarrassed by their comments & so should they,” he continued. They'll never dim my shine. Big love x".

Layton's message comes after he sparked concern among Strictly fans during Saturday's show, as Nikita, 25, made a comment on his personal life as he became tearful.

Following their Charleston, which earned them 40 out of 40 from the judges, Claudia Winkleman asked Nikita why his partner deserves to lift the Glitterball Trophy at the final.

Nikita responded: "I know he makes it seem easy, but you are the most hardworking person I've been in a room with. You try to bring joy to everyone, no matter what happens outside, no matter what happens with your personal life, I'm not going to go into that.”

The pro dancer continued before becoming tearful as Layton began crying: "You always bring joy. You make me shine with how much you shine. You are my best friend. This is so special, I'd love to have my first final with you." The couple then embraced as the other professionals and celebrities applauded their efforts.

Many fans took to X, previously known as Twitter, to voice their concerns, with one asking: "What did Nikita mean about Layton's personal life? Genuine question #Strictly."
