BBC Strictly fans in tears as show airs ‘moving’ routine

Strictly Come Dancing has moved its fans to tears during its Remembrance Day results show, with the professional cast paying tribute with a special routine.

Tonight's show opened up with a performance set to a slow version of Belinda Carlisle's Heaven Is A Place on Earth, starring Kai Widdrington and Lauren Oakley as a World War II couple separated by the war.

Fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the routine, with some revealing that the dance marking Remembrance Day made them well up.

"How heartwarming and moving was this opening number," one viewer wrote. "Professional Dancers, I salute you."

Another described the routine as "stunningly moving", while one viewer said that the dance left her "crying".

"Well…that's me crying at the pro dance," one viewer wrote. "Stunning story telling."

Sharing the routine on Instagram, Strictly wrote: "Lest we forget, all those who gave their tomorrow for our today."

The results show also featured a performance from Andrea Bocelli and his 11-year-old daughter Virginia, who sang a rendition of Leonard Cohen's hit Hallelujah while professionals Dianne Buswell and Giovanni Pernice danced.

Tonight's show saw Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Angela Rippon face each other in the dance-off after receiving the fewest public votes.

After performing their dances again, the judges decided to save Angela and Kai as their Paso Doble to Madonna's Hung Up featured more of the "fundamentals".

Krishnan became the seventh celebrity to be eliminated from the show – although head judge Shirley Ballas revealed that she would have voted to save the Channel 4 presenter, saying that he was "more grounded on his feet".

The remaining seven celebrities will be heading to Blackpool for next week's special show as Angela Scanlon, Bobby Brazier, Ellie Leach, Annabel Croft, Layton Williams, Nigel Harman and Angela Rippon remain in the competition.

Saturday night's show saw Bobby Brazier make his co-stars blush after letting slip about his bedroom antics.

The 20-year-old said that he's been rehearsing steps "in his sleep", adding: "The person that I shared the bed with, I turned, and I said, 'This is the industrial twist.'"

The moment left his professional partner Dianne Buswell and the rest of the Strictly cast giggling, while host Claudia Winkleman said, "Who wants to pull on that string?"
