Big Brother's Jonny Regan has been spotted for the first time in years – as a reboot of the show is set to return this week.
Jonny, a 51 year old former fireman, rose to fame in 2002 when he appeared on the third series of the iconic reality show. He finished runner up on Big Brother 3 – a season that also made stars of eventual winner Kate Lawler, the late Jade Goody, BBC Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts and This Morning favourite Alison Hammond.
However, popular Jonny, from Trimdon, County Durham, turned his back on fame for a ‘normal job’ – becoming a photography company owner. And, more than 20 years later, he looks very different than he did during his time in the Big Brother House.
He was spotted visiting a County Durham supermarket, looking well while wearing denim shorts and a yellow jumper. He was pictured sporting a neatly-trimmed full moustache and beard – in place of his early noughties goatee.
After his time on Big Brother, Jonnie had a short career in acting. He went on to tour with musical Boogie Nights, starred in pantos and appeared in adverts for British Gas and Skybet. But he stepped back from the limelight and now lives in Hartlepool with wife Joanne Llewellyn, who he married in 2004 after 12 years of dating.
He previously opened up on how he met Joanne in an interview with the Northern Echo. He said: “She had just been on holiday and she looked fantastic. She had a short top on and this flat, brown stomach, and her tan just made her smile look incredible.
“Because I'd had a lot to drink, I think it gave me Dutch courage. I went straight over to her, gave her a kiss and got her phone number.
“I was a bit young and wild, but Joanne tamed me. When we'd been going out for a few months, I thought maybe this time it was different.”
The couple got engaged the year before Jonny appeared on Big Brother and tied the knot at St William's RC Church, in Trimdon Village, County Durham, in July 2004.
For 2023, ITV has rebooted Big Brother – which was previously shown on Channel 4 and Channel 5 – with the launch episode set to air on Sunday 8 October at 9pm. AJ Odudu and Will Best have been confirmed to be the new hosts of the show, replacing Emma Willis, who presented it from 2013 to 2018.
This week it was revealed that Big Brother bosses will impose a ‘social media blackout’ on housemates when the show returns. Producers released details of the welfare package that has been created to support the contestants before, during and after their time on the show.
Bosses said housemates will be required to adhere to a social media blackout – with contestants, their friends and their families asked to not post any content on their individual social accounts for the duration of their time in the House in a bid to safeguard their mental health.
Meanwhile, also this week, fans were given a first glimpse of what the new Big Brother House will look like.
