“First time in the studio with @carolkirkwood. When weather met sport x.” (sic)

BBC Breakfast viewer @bb_niabevan replied: “What a lovely pic Chetan.”

@jasmineparm went on to comment: “Love this!”

Jon Kay and Sally Nugent were also thrilled to see Carol in the studio as they laughed and teased the meteorologist.

After one segment about a bear from a zoo being dressed in a costume, Jon turned to Carol and joked: “We can also verify that this is the real Carol Kirkwood, this is not somebody in a costume.”

“This is the real thing,” he added which led Carol to look down and replied: “Just checking.”

As Jon told his co-star it was nice to see her, Carol beamed: “Lovely to be here as well, it really is!

“It’s always a pleasure, it’s always so lively, so nice. Instead of my room cupboard!”

Away from BBC Breakfast, Carol is busy writing her books and she recently released her third novel.

During an appearance on The One Show, Carol discussed her latest project with Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas.

She told the hosts: “It is set around two families and there are two successful wine-producing families, one more successful than the other.

“And the families have been intertwined for generations, and it’s expected that some of the siblings will get married and increase this dynasty.

“So the wedding of the year is planned, no expenses spared… anybody who’s anybody is going to attend the wedding.

“So you’ve got Hollywood glamorous starlets coming along, you’ve got members of the mafia as well. So there’s a wee bit of a dark streak in this particular book.

“But both families have got secrets and these secrets can ruin relationships and destroy lives literally.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
