Charley Webb reveals first look at new role after Emmerdale exit

Emmerdale star Charley Webb has shared some pictures ahead of her new role as a police officer in an ITV drama.

The actress, who played Debbie Dingle in the soap, will star in The Long Shadow, which tells the story of the hunt for serial killer Peter Sutcliffe.

It will focus on the lives of the victims who crossed his path and those of the officers at the heart of the police investigation.

Playing the roles of DCS Dennis Hoban, DCS George Oldfield and DCS Jim Hobson are Toby Jones, David Morrissey and Lee Ingleby, while Coronation Street’s Katherine Kelly will play Emily Jackson, and Daniel Mays will portray Emily’s husband, Sydney.

The cast also includes Ackley Bridge’s Rob James-Collier, EastEnders legend Jill Halfpenny and Charley, who hasn’t appeared in an ITV show since she left Emmerdale in 2021.

Sharing a variety of images on her Instagram, with one featuring what looks like her character’s costume, Charley wrote alongside: ‘The Long Shadow. Coming to ITV in September. The team that dreams are made of.’

September is certainly going to be a busy month for Charley, as she is getting ready to appear in the theatre production of Quiz.

The play, written by James Graham, tells the story of Diana and Charles Ingram, who attempted to cheat on ITV’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire by coughing to signify the correct answer.

The story was also told in an ITV drama back in 2020, with Sian Clifford and Matthew MacFadyen playing the roles of Diana and Charles, while Michael Sheen stunned everyone with his iconic performance as Chris Tarrant, who presented the show.
