Les Dennis will make his debut in Death in Paradise when the Christmas special hits later this month. The actor plays clairvoyant, Danny Sheridan, and will star alongside detective Neville Parker (played by Ralf Little) and the rest of the Saint Marie police force. Viewers will watch the BBC special take a spooky turn when one of Selwyn’s (Don Warrington) old cases comes back to haunt him.

The one-off programme will follow the murder of a true crime podcaster, who was on the hunt for a missing child.

Marlon (Tahj Miles) is also forced to spend the night in a haunted house, while Darlene (Ginny Holder) takes a hard look at her life choices.

Meanwhile, love could finally be on the cards for Neville after a chance encounter at the airport.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk and other press, Les Dennis opened up about what it was like to play Danny Sheridan.

“I play Danny Sheridan who builds himself as a celebrity medium,” Les began.

“And so he gets involved in the case after the murder of a true crime podcaster and he claims to be in contact with the missing child from the past.

“So yeah, it’s a lovely character to play, he’s cheesy, he lives on the island, and he’s got a big villa.”

He continued: “Most of my scenes were with Jinny, who plays Darlene and of course, with Neville, with Ralph and also with Don Warrington, who I know from the past as well.

“It was a dream role because you go out for two weeks to the Caribbean… what’s not to like?”

When chatting about his “biggest scene” with Ralf, Les admitted he was “nervous”.

“My first scene was probably my biggest scene,” the star explained before adding: “On the day, I was very nervous about going in and being with all these people who were absolutely as you say, already regulars.

“It’s hot for one thing, you’re filming in heat and you’re doing the scene, and you think, ‘I’ve got to get this right’ because I had a lot of the dialogue in it.

“So I was a little nervous, but the cast were so welcoming. “

“It wasn’t just that we would film in the day and then they’d all go back to their homes, we all kind of met up in the evenings and socialised,” Les shared.

“So, a lovely, delightful job to do and I only had two weeks there. I think they had the whole summer so I was very envious when I left and came back home.”

Discussing what fans can expect from the Christmas special, the Neville Parker star said: “The nice thing about a Christmas special is that everyone understands that you can be a bit more playful or experimental – or special, even – with the tone.

“We have ninety minutes instead of an hour, so we can give storylines time to develop.

“They went bold this year with the script. Don’t worry, it’s not a massive departure from the usual Death in Paradise story.

“We still know what people enjoy about the show, but it’s a good old-fashioned Christmas ghost story with clever twists.

“It has a scary tone, but it’s in keeping with the world of the show.

“It was fun to film and I think people are going to enjoy it.”

Death in Paradise Christmas special airs on Boxing Day at 9pm on BBC One.
