Emmerdale boss teases betrayal, long-lost siblings and flashbacks for Christmas episodes

Emmerdale boss Jane Hudson has teased what viewers can expect for the ITV soap's explosive Christmas episodes.

It's been a dramatic few weeks in the Dales as part of the 50th anniversary with four shocking character deaths and the destruction of the village due to the storm.

And teasing even more details on Wednesday 7 December, the ITV soap's boss has shared new spoilers, revealing betrayal, long-lost siblings and flashbacks.

Speaking to press, including OK! , Jane said: "I think it was really important for us after our big October month, where four people died, that we do have some of our Christmas episodes as feel good. It's the importance of togetherness, of family, of friends, of checking in on each other and making sure you're okay."

However, the ITV soap boss went on to tease: "It's not all going to be like that… we've got Paddy and Chas, who are absolutely in their worst place because the affair has been discovered, and they are forced to spend Christmas day together… and it does not go well!

"And then the other big story that's going on is for Cain, who's still in prison, and he will get a visit from his brother on Christmas Day – Caleb, played by Will Ash.

"I last worked with Will about 14 years ago when I produced Waterloo Road. So when our casting directors suggested Will for Caleb, I was absolutely then transfixed on he has to come and play this part. And he said yes, and he's absolutely brilliant. I think the viewers are going to fall in love with him."

Explaining more about the story, Jane continued: "So when Caleb visits Cain in prison, we will discover that Cain knew Caleb exists and he's known about him for 30 years.

"On Boxing Day, we will rewind to 1992 and we will discover how Cain and Caleb first met, why Cain then rejected him from his life and what was going on with Chas at that point.

"We have three fantastic actors playing our young Cain, Caleb and Chas. The actor who played [young] Cain, he actually studied lots of footage of Jeff [who plays Cain] and his positions and his poses and how he speaks. It's incredible when you watch it, there's one part in particular where he leans against a wall. It's like: 'That's Jeff!', it is so bizarre.

"So it's a brilliant rewind episode that will explain a lot about their family history. And as much as Cain wants Caleb to disappear for another 30 years, Caleb's not going to have that.

"He [Caleb] wants to meet his sister Chas, he wants to meet the rest of his extended family and could he be the answer to all the Dingles' prayers in regards to Cain being locked up? You'll have to wait to find out that one."

Dropping one last teaser, Jane added: "And, of course, we all know that Cain didn't do this murder. We all know Kyle's responsible. And we probably all know that the worse place to keep a secret is in Emmerdale. So we will be waiting to see if that secret comes out and the consequences if that happens…"
