Rik Makarem, a former Emmerdale star, has given his thoughts on Rishi Sharma’s (Bhasker Patel) shock exit from the ITV soap.
Rishi was seen dead at the bottom of the stairs in Thursday’s (July 27) episode of the show.
The patriarch had been all dressed up to attend Jai (Chris Bisson) and Laurel’s (Charlotte Bellamy) wedding, despite the animosity between the two after Jai’s adoption was revealed.
Rishi was determined to be there for his son on his big day, but tragedy subsequently struck, with him presumably taking a tumble down the stairs.

It was a heartbreaking and unexpected moment that shocked not only Emmerdale fans, but former cast members as well.
Rik Makarem portrayed Nikhil Sharma on and off from 2009-2016. He was married to Gennie (Sian Reese-Williams) and is also Priya (Fiona Wade) and Jai’s brother.
Nikhil departed the village in 2013 after Gennie was murdered by Cameron Murray. He left with daughter Molly for his new job in Toronto, and then returned in 2015.
Following Bhasker’s final scenes, Chris Bisson was on hand to share the love on Twitter, sharing a ‘We’ll miss you Bhasker’ tweet to his followers.

This was then quoted by Rik, who simply wrote: ‘Well done boys. What a journey.’
‘It does feel very strange without him’, Chris said, reacting to Bhasker’s departure. ‘Every time I walk past what was his dressing room I think about popping my head in to see how he’s doing. So it is strange when he isn’t there.
‘Twelve years is a long time. And over the years we’ve had some great stories and have had a lot of fun too. Bhasker and I got on really well personally so that makes a big difference and the loss even greater – we all miss him in the building.’
