Speaking to Express.co.uk, Emmerdale actress Isobel Steele talked about what’s in store for her character and what Sandra (played by Joanne Mitchell) is up to. She explained Liv can’t help but trust her manipulative mother because she’s the only family she has got left. She explained how Sandra is deliberately trying to get Liv to turn to alcohol again, which might set off her addiction. Could Liv end up dying from alcohol poisoning?

Viewers of the ITV soap will already have seen Sandra’s evil scheming, in which she spiked her daughter’s drink with booze.

She is clearly trying to isolate Liv and cause a rift between the people around her, including her husband Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson).

Speaking to press, Isobel said: “[Sandra’s] really a very well-written character, in that I think that somewhere deep down she genuinely does care.

“We wanted to make sure that when we were filming these scenes, and I was working with Jo, that the beats were played where – sometimes when she’s seen the havoc that she’s caused, there is genuine emotion there, and she feels guilty for what she’s doing.

“Liv is her daughter, and I think that somewhere deep down there is that emotion and that love for Liv.

“So it’s a complex character because she is so awful, but it comes from a place of just not knowing what love is, I think.”

She went on to explain what Sandra is trying to achieve by suddenly being back in Liv’s life.

“Sandra makes her feel like the only person who really knows her and has her back is Sandra because of the history they’ve had in the past,” she added.

“There is love there because Liv doesn’t really have family that has felt like they’ve been there from the start.

“Obviously her dad died, he killed himself, Aaron (Danny Miller) is a half-brother that never really was in her life as a child.

“So her mum, despite being an awful situation and relationship, she is the only person that’s been there since Liv’s been born.

“There’s always going to be that connection and Liv will always take her side because of that.”

It seems Liv will be unable to see what her mother is doing, and will end up pushing away Vinny in favour of Sandra.

“It’s frustrating because she’s obviously built these foundation blocks with family and settled into the village,” Isobel commented.

“She’s got people who genuinely love and look out for her.

“But it’s like she isn’t quite seeing that those people have her back, and it’s sort of been swept away by all of this.

“[It’s] so frustrating and out of character for Liv to be so blind, but that comes with it being her mum, the one person she can’t really see through.

“You can tell how Sandra has managed to manipulate it to make Liv feel claustrophobic in her relationship and like no one has her back.

“The confusion Sandra has created, the doubt she’s planted in Liv with so many things, her relationship with Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham), Aaron, Vinny, Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley), she’s ostracised them and made Liv feel very alone.”

The actress continued: “Sandra very subtly puts a little bit of doubt in every scene and makes Liv feel less of a person. That definitely takes its toll.

“Liv’s always been pretty good at that and staying sober, but I think yeah, Sandra is not a great person to be around because she’s also an alcoholic.

“So even by Sandra just talking about her own wants and needs in terms of alcohol it is very triggering for Liv.

“She’s finding it hard to be around that past history of being a mess and be a train wreck and it’s sort of bringing it all back and she’s finding it harder to stick to it now that there’s all this confusion and chat. It just niggles away at her.”

Could Sandra end up causing Liv to drink herself to death?

After battling addiction in the past, Liv was told she is putting her health at extreme risk.

She managed to get sober and has remained on the right path, but it seems Sandra is determined to get her daughter back on the booze.

If she starts to spiral again, could her health take a severe turn?

It’s possible Liv could end up dead thanks to her mother’s evil meddling.

Emmerdale continues on Thursday at 7.30pm on ITV.
