Emmerdale’s Charlotte Bellamy has shared that her character Laurel Thomas is set to experience a scary situation as her kidnapping ordeal unfolds.

On Tuesday night’s episode, Laurel found herself in unsettling circumstance as an unhinged Colin Hamston (Mark Noble) refused to let her leave his house and later locked her in a room after blaming her for everything that had gone wrong in his life.

With the episode left on a cliffhanger and leaving fans waiting with bated breath to find out what happens next, Charlotte has teased some details of the storyline.

Appearing on Lorraine on Wednesday morning, Charlotte told host Christine Lampard that things were going to get a lot worse before an eventual resolution.

‘Well, it gets a lot worse, and it gets quite dark actually,’ she explained.

‘Crazy Colin, he’s bonkers, and he sort of digs himself deeper and deeper, but eventually, all I’ll say is that Laurel’s compassion comes through.’

The incident unfolded after Colin tried to place blame on Laurel for ‘losing’ his son Marshall, whom he’d previously rejected and even abused for being gay.

‘He blames her for everything and he is unravelling and it all stems from, as the audience will find out, what is actually grief,’ Charlotte explained of Colin’s anger.

‘He lost his wife and that is where it all comes from and we pick away at that.’

With many people under the assumption that Laurel is also on her way to India, Charlotte said it would likely be ‘a few days’ before anyone noticed she was missing.

‘Everyone is thinking I’m in the air so she’s going to be there for at least a few days,’ she shared.

‘It gets worse before it gets better.’

Speaking about filming the intense scenes, Charlotte also explained what it involved.

‘We filmed that [sequence] for about two days in that really hot weather we recently had and there were about 10 of us in a tiny room in a house on location,’ she said.

‘In a way it was really good fun because we were away from the studio and the village, so it did feel like a mini film.’

After 21 years on the series, Charlotte also said that she had loved growing with her character, explaining how she thought they had both ‘evolved’ together.

‘I’ve been there for that long and it’s a part of my life which I am so appreciative of.’
