Emmerdale’s Dawn Taylor fears relapsing as birth brings up ‘trauma’

Emmerdale: Dawn tells Gabby she wants ‘nothing’ to do with her

Dawn Taylor (played by Olivia Bromley) is concerned she might relapse after giving birth to her baby in Emmerdale.

Dawn’s got a history of drug addiction but she managed to overcome her addiction in order to get custody of her son Lucas Taylor (Dexter Ansell).

She struggled to get clean for years and even resorted to prostitution to fund her addiction. Luckily, Billy turned her world around and she has been in a good place for over a year.

When she discovered she was expecting a baby with husband Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) earlier this year, Dawn was thrilled.

However, the discussion of pain relief medication during the birth concerned her at an ante-natal class as she realised there is a chance she could relapse.

With her birth set to happen ahead of Christmas, will Dawn end up with addiction troubles once again if she takes pain relief drugs?

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other media about Dawn’s birthing storyline, actress Olivia explained: “I think Dawn is just riddled with anxiety constantly.

“But with the birth and everything, she really takes control and she’s actually very chilled.”

She added: “There’s often a big trauma around birth in soap. So, it’s quite interesting to see one that went well.”

Olivia explained: “I think Dawn’s anxiety just gets really bad around the kind of the medication around her birth and about the fact that previously she doesn’t remember a lot about being a young mother because she was so addicted at the time.

“And then also to have a young baby taken away from you. I think there’s a lot of trauma around that. And as you see, she often panics. She immediately goes to panic about like Clemmie.”

Clemmie Reed (Mabel Addison) was adopted by Dawn and Billy after her mother, who was a drug addict, died.

Billy and Dawn have experienced difficulties with the youngster who was concerned when Dawn announced her pregnancy.

But hopefully, Clemmie will warm to the baby boy when he’s born in the coming weeks on the ITV soap after Dawn goes into labour at the village Christmas fair.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
