Huge drama's spin-off series axed by bosses after special crossover episode | The Sun

ABC has discontinued a spin-off series from one of its critically acclaimed TV shows.

The network has confirmed that they will not launch The Good Lawyer – an offshoot of The Good Doctor – as its own show, according to TVLine.

The legal spinoff starred Desperate Housewives' Felicity Huffman as Janet Stewart and Nancy Drew's Kennedy McMann as Jonni DeGroot.

On March 13, a crossover titled The Good Lawyer aired as episode 16th of season 6 of The Good Doctor and saw Jonni and Dr Murphy succeed in their legal battles.

During season 6 of The Good Doctor, the spinoff aired a backdoor pilot, which showed Kennedy’s character, Jonni, living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

The show introduced the audience to the pair via some legal troubles for Freddie Highmore’s character Dr Shaun Murphy.

In the pilot, Dr Murphy is sued for malpractice but meets Jonni, who helps him get justice and clear his name with the assistance of Felicity's character, Janet.

Janet was a mentor to Joni in a similar style to how Dr Glassman, played by Richard Schiff, was to Dr Murphy.

In April, ABC announced that The Good Lawyer would be renewed for season 7.

The hit medical drama aired in 2017 and followed a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome named Shaun, portrayed by Freddie Highmore.

Freddie’s character, Shaun, strives through his disabilities and uses them as special powers to visualise the human body, diagnose and treat several severe medical conditions.

Season 6’s finale aired in May, and viewers were left on a cliffhanger after Shaun's partner, Lea Dilallo-Murphy (Paige Spara), gave birth to their baby.

The Good Doctor airs on ABC in the US, Sky Witness and NOW in the UK.
