Netflix fans left bored by latest series of You in sudden change of heart

Netflix has released the fourth series of You – and it’s leaving fans divided.

The crime drama stars Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, a stalker and serial killer who has committed a string of murderous crimes and remains convinced that a new love could somehow save him from his violent ways.

He was obsessed with Guinevere Beck in the first series and fell for Love Quinn in the second, before they returned with their baby Henry for the third season.

But season four sees Joe arrive in London for a new job at a university, taking on a new identity to escape his past as he searches for another “love” to obsess over.

However, Joe soon discovers that he isn’t the only killer in town, which adds an unexpected twist.

The series, which is split into two instalments, just dropped on Netflix – but some viewers aren’t so convinced the show needed to return for a fourth run.

One person on Twitter wrote: “I'm not liking #YouSeason4 it's dry af. The new characters boring not fun. I'm on episode 4 and I'm like wtf is this. London was a bad idea. #YouNetflix”.

Another person wrote: “Is it just me, or this new season of #YouNetflix really bad? I don’t think they can stretch out this story line anymore after this season…”

Agreeing, someone else suggested: "not only was you season 4 pt 1 boring, it also introduced way too many new characters that were unrelatable, unremarkable, and pointless bc they didn’t even attempt to make them interesting. they absolutely wasted marienne im literally wondering wtf the point of the s3 finale was".

And a fourth person wrote: "This season of #YouNetflix is really annoying me. It’s the depiction of London and the forced accents. You’re already british why are you exaggerating your accent????".

Some fans weren't so critical however, with one writing: "Guys ‘You’ season 4 is amazing. It’s so refreshing to see a better storyline after season 2 & 3. The whole dark academia vibe is 10/0."

Another person said: "btw if you need some trashy tv – You S4 is amazing, though you'll probably have to suspend disbelief when Joe walks out of Egham (in Surrey), into Shoreditch and then down the street to SOUTH KENSINGTON".

The first three series of the series were set in the US, with Joe beginning the series as a bookseller in New York, who becomes obsessed with (and later kills) aspiring writer Guinevere Beck.

The second series sees him relocate to LA, where he meets Love Quinn, a widow and aspiring chef. After it turns out that Love has just as much of a murderous mind as Joe, the couple then move to San Francisco after committing murder for series three, where they raise their son Henry together.

The series ends in more drama, with Love presumed dead, leading Joe to land in London for the fourth series to begin a new life in Europe.

Two of the main filming locations for the new season are Knebworth House in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, and Royal Holloway University in Egham, Surrey, where Joe's cover was blown in March last year when students spotted Penn Badgley strolling across campus grass and filming scenes at the Founder's Building.
